Ectopic - people's treatment?

Hello, I'm currently being monitored for a likely ectopic pregnancy. There are lots of signs pointing to it being one. Fortunately for me it seemed to begin as soon as I was ovulating and have issues since helping me to find the problem asap.
I'm going in for another scan on Tuesday but I am interested to know how other people with ectopic pregnancies were treated? I want to know if surgery is a likely thing I'll be going through or if there is a more common method? I know the doctor will give me plenty of advice in my following appointments but I'm still curious to find out more. Thanks!

Mine ruptured so I had to have surgery

the ectopic pregnancy trust has a lot of information.

@JustASquareMoreChocolate gosh! Do you know long into the pregnancy you were? I'm very scared of this.

8 weeks. I don’t think yours is the same! Subsequently had two healthy babies with one tube though 😀

I had surgery to remove a tube

Arb108 · 25/08/2024 20:47

@jyfvjy had yours ruptured? Was surgery your only option?

I had to have emergency surgery after my ectopic pregnancy ruptured just shy of 12 weeks. Absolutely no symptoms at all until then which I was told was very unusual. My understanding is that if it's caught early enough they can give an injection to manage it medically rather than with surgery. They said I was at a higher chance of having a second ectopic and so this is why you're scanned at 6 weeks if you get pregnant again, that way they can hopefully manage it without surgery. Good luck, I hope it turns out not to be ectopic, but if it is it's good they're monitoring you so it doesn't become an emergency.

I had an ectopic last year, they refused to treat me until they found it which took 7 weeks!! Turns out I had a very rare ovarian ectopic which I had surgically removed so no tubes were taken, I'm currently 11 weeks pregnant I had a scan at 6 weeks to make sure the pregnancy was in the right place
