Worried about dehydration in pregnancy - advice please

DS and DP have both had a stomach bug which I believe I've caught, I day believe because I've suffered with nausea, vomiting and fatigue throughout this pregnancy anyway (12 weeks but scan isn't until Tuesday) but today has been horrific and much worse than usual. I can't keep a single thing down, vomitting every 20-30 mins, feeling so weak and thirsty (but can't keep anything down) and have a pounding headache. I haven't moved from my bed all day as I'm far too weak.

I'm worried about dehydration and hope someone can advise. I rang 111 for advice and they asked me to get myself to A&E but I honestly can't drive myself down there and sit in a waiting room for hours feeling like this, someone is ringing me back in 2 hours. Is that the only choice? My DP couldn't take me as he is getting DS to bed and will obviously need to stay in with him. My stomach feels like it's in bits 😩

Can you ask a friend to drive you?

Lollipops, suck on ice cubes. You will be ok. Lots of women with hyperemisis vomit up to that many times most days of their pregnancy. Babies are incredibly resilient. Are you still passing urine?

I had a bug last week at 15 weeks, I have never been so ill!! Try teaspoons of water 10/15 mins apart, lemonade ice lollies, rehydration sachets once starting to keep water down. I also made my own which worked well (1ltr water, 6tsp sugar, 1/2 teaspoon salt) good luck!!!

I had a sickness and diarrhea bug in very early pregnancy and was so worried about dehydration.
I was so thirsty yet couldn't keep anything in so my lips and mouth were dry, skin was dry etc.
I just had to keep persevering. Ice pops really helped and then tiny little sips all day every day. Even after vomiting, just straight back to the tiny sips
If it's a bug it should only last a few days hopefully

Just today? I'd just try and sleep it off.

Can you get a taxi to A&E or can someone come round to stay with your DS so your DP can take you?

There’s not a lot of point waiting for your call back because it might be a lot longer than 2 hours and they will probably just tell you to go to A&E then.

Can you get a taxi? You might need to go on a drip

AlwaysKindaKnewYoudBeTheDeathOfMe · 25/08/2024 19:56

You can't get a taxi when you have a sickness bug and are throwing up every half hour!

Inlaw · 25/08/2024 19:57

Oo yeah I just had this! So bad! If it’s just been 12 hours or so you’re going to be fine. Eat a spoon of honey if you have it. Keep drinking water. You’re going to throw up either way so may as well have something to throw up. You will be ok.

blackrabbitwhiterabbit · 25/08/2024 19:59

When I had this, I was driven to A&E, no wait at all as they let me jump the queue and put me straight on a drip. Go now!

How far away is the hospital?
