I’m 29 weeks pregnant and for the last week or two have started to get awful constipation 😩

I’ve never had this before (usually go 1 or 2 times a day), and eat a diet high in fibre- veg/beans/pulses/fruit etc.

TMI, but it’s SO uncomfortable (needing to go but can’t actually get anything out) and today I’ve started to get some cramping which feels almost like period pains but I think might be related to the constipation/straining 😬. Either way it’s making me anxious.

So far I’ve tried milled flaxseeds, chia seeds, coconut water, coffee, walking and nothing has worked (but I guess these things need time and consistency?)

Anyone else had anything similar? If so how did you clear the blockage and then maintain things up until the end of pregnancy?

And if you had it in the third trimester, did it continue until birth?! Help! TIA 🙏

Ughhh it’s the worst!!!!
so I would suggest you try drinking LOADS and have some orange juice.
try to keep moving, have a warm bath..

the period like pains for me are normally gas - it’s HELL.
deflatine may help!

Prunes worked for me!!!!! Get a pack of dried prunes from Aldi/Lidl and just munch on them each day. Also drink loads of water!!!!!!

Water water water. First thing you do each morning is drink a BIG glass of water.

Butternut squash soup is good for getting things moving. Not difficult to make but definitely a pain in the butt, so do big batches at a time.

Porridge is good, mixed with an Actimel pot. Takes delicious! You can also add linseed after cooking the oats (DO NOT COOK THE OATS they are vile after being in the microwave. I spent all afternoon thinking I was about to vomit)

Stay away from UPFs; they will clog you up. Eat lots of fruit.

And yes, sorry this probably will last until birth 😬

(28 weeks here, so solidarity)

Magnesium supplement before bed. Take 100% rda. It helps with getting to sleep and leg cramps too

Psyllium Husks from H&B

Prunes and prunes juice and a magnesium supplement work for me 👍🏼

Lactulose to get out of the pattern you're in, and then drink looooads of water to keep things moving after that. I had this around that time in my pregnancy and now I'm further along and have been having more usual bowel movements thankfully. I drink so much water now in the daytime which is the main thing.

Thank you so much for the replies and tips! Very grateful for the insights. Have increased my water intake by about 1l today and I think it’s already made a difference to get things moving a little more. Also purchased the prunes and magnesium- fingers crossed!
