Baby startling to loud noises inside! 35 weeks

Hi all,

I'm 35 weeks pregnant and for the past few weeks have really noticed my baby startling inside my belly to loud noises that I pass by daily. Things like putting pots and pans away, trains going past me and any form of bang noise like someone dropping something loudly or slamming a door, I feel my whole belly suddenly jump.

I feel bad for my baby if he is constantly being scared by these things! and also worried he's going to be nervous as a baby and scared of loud noises. I'm consciously trying to put away washing up more quietly 😅

Is this normal??

Imagine how you hear sound with your head underwater, and that's what it's like for them. Basically, you are over worrying. I'm sure it's partly coincidence, and even if they can hear, it really doesn't matter. Worrying is the worst thing you can do for baby once they're here. I went to a loud music festival recently at 32 weeks, it's perfectly safe.

It’s normal. I remember mine moving at the Grand Prix! Around same time as you. It didn’t occur to me before we went. It’s very muted to them and does show they can hear! My DD is extremely outgoing and not remotely quiet! Please don’t worry.

I remember dropping a cutlery tray when I was pregnant. It was really loud and my baby jumped inside me 😂

Yeh, they start doing things like that towards the end. Your baby might be reacting to your reaction, maybe your heart rate increases slightly when you hear a load noise etc. I don't think it's anything to worry about. They all have a little startle reflex as newborns but it doesn't have any bearing on their temperament or anything like that.
I used to rub my tummy as if to settle her back down.
If you're worried about it, talk to the midwife or doctor.

My son jumped when the star wars music started up at the cinema, think I was 8 months pregnant!!!! He still loves star wars now and he's 19 in a week 🤣🤣 we used to have a rainmaker toy, I used to put it on my bump and he would move to the noise. I think they can hear quite well when in transit x

It's totally normal. I went to the theatre a couple of weeks ago at 32 weeks and there were loads of loud noises in the show - baby was leaping around all over the place!
