8 weeks and already feeling huge

I m only 8 weeks but already feeling huge and I swear I am not pushing my belly out or anything (i had an early scan at 6 weeks so the dates are pretty certain and there's definitely only one in there).

Also, I do know bloating can be a real issue at this stage but this belly is here morning till night and doesn't seem to change with what i eat or when. It's like this all the time.

This is my second baby, my first pregnancy I barely had a bump at all until over 30 weeks. In fact, I had to have an unrelated MRI at 30 weeks and the person doing the MRI had missed that I was pregnant in my notes. She got a shock when she saw a baby in there as I was lying down and pretty much had a flat stomach! She couldn't believe I was 30 weeks pregnant.

I'm finding this hard to conceal and also worrying about how massive I'm going to be this time round.

Anyone else feeling like this......I'd love to see your little first trimester 'bumps'

Same! I feel like I have a little bump already at 8 weeks! I do also feel pretty sick and bloated so I imagine it’s partly that but can see myself getting pretty big pretty quick this time around - it’s my 2nd too

thi mor u av thi bigga thi bump

I was way bigger earlier on with my second. I was quite big by the end too but she was a big baby! I think it's because your stomach muscles are much stronger first time so hold everything in more.
When you see your midwife she will check your size and when you have a scan they check if there's excess amniotic fluid or anything like that.

That's a gorgeous neat bump! Hope the rest of your pregnancy is kind

Thank you for the replies, I hadn't realised that with 2nd and subsequent babies but it does make sense that the stomach muscles have already been stretched.
Going for a scan tomorrow so hopefully they can check for any excess fluid or anything like that

Hi - I ballooned v quickly with second, but the weight gain did slow down and now at 37w I’m no bigger than first time around. Have been told that stomach muscles are looser and also your organs have all shifted before so there’s that space for the baby to take up quicker than last time. However this baby is measuring bang on exactly the same trajectory as last one! Hope your pregnancy goes well, fingers crossed

The baby is only the size of a mushroom or so, so it's just going to be bloat unfortunately. Maybe a change to diet and drinking some water would help

That's really interesting and reassuring, thank you.
Good luck for the rest of your pregnancy

Yeah you could be right.
My diet currently consists of plain crackers and not much else at the moment due to morning sickness and I'm constantly drinking water to quench this insatiable thirst though so don't think there's much I can do about it.
Definitely struggling more this time round.

I grew very quickly in my 3rd pregnancy and looked like I was about to give birth at 17 weeks- but then remained kind of static right to the end.

Ohwelldone · 20/08/2024 12:37

I got really big really early on with my 2nd but then didnt seem to grow as much in the third trimester, so it doesnt mean your bump will be huge just that its appearing earlier ... I'm currently nearly 6 weeks with baby 3 and who knows how long I'll be able to hide it 😅😂
