Confusion on dates - should I be worried?

So I had a scan yesterday that measured little bean at 5+6 with a heartbeat (yay). So that in itself is positive.

My only concern is the dates don't add up I thought I was 6+4 and was pretty sure about this.

My first positive pregnancy test was exactly 3 weeks ago yesterday and my ovulation (confirmed via tests and BBT) was 11 days before that.

I do have longer periods which is why I'm ignoring the start date of that but if we went by that I'd be over 7 weeks.

What concerns me is working backwards is that I would have been nearly 5 weeks alone based on time since ovulation. Adding another 2 weeks on top of that would put me at nearly 7 weeks.

I don't understand how my little bean can be measuring so behind. Is this a cause for concern or normal at this stage?

The sonographer told me to go off my original dates which would now have me at 7+2 but I don't want to get the dates wrong and miss out on the vital tests at 12 weeksish

Any insight?

Very normal. Even if you know ovulation (which you never know for sure), implantation can happen within a window of several days. And measurements at that stage are so tiny, it's hard to be accurate. Everyone I know had their due date moved at their 12 week scan, it's only an estimate. And the NHS 12 week scan can be done between 11-14 weeks, i was 13 weeks at mine. this is why very early scans can cause more anxiety than reassurance!

@Peonies12 this is good to know thank you! My scan was done because of bleeding rather than a choice and while my dates were wrong with my son, that time around he was measuring ahead rather than behind and that felt less worrying 😂

I told myself beforehand if there's a heart beat you should be happy and yet here I am moaning about dates

I also went for a scan at 7 weeks I was very positive I was 7 weeks as I knew when I ovulated etc. sonographer said baby was between 5-6 weeks which I knew was for sure wrong. Strangely I didn’t worry.. went back for a scan at 9 weeks 4 days and was measuring spot on to the date I knew I ovulated from. I think when they are so small it can be hard to measure accurately! I wouldn’t worry. Stick with the positives that baby is in the right place and heartbeat seen!! Congrats :)))) x

Thanks @Kt1704 that's really reassuring! That's what I'm hoping will happen!

I was 2 weeks behind what I thought with my second, but my lovely ob explained it to me , so I was actually right on time.

Just to add some balance, and not at all wanting to cause upset, but whilst it is common, it can also be a sign of a pregnancy which is going to fail. I had the same and went on to miscarry after a scan 2 weeks later showed no growth. I think it's important to be prepared it can still go either way at this stage. Hoping for a positive outcome for you.
