Period type pain at 19 weeks

Hi everyone, I’m 19+3 today with DC2, and for the past three or four days I’ve been having some period-like pain. It’s ranging from mild to moderate where I’ve felt a bit unwell with it and had to take paracetamol. Kind of like the first day of my period, back when I was in my twenties anyway! It woke me up in the night too.

It seems to have coincided with me feeling movements more definitively and so I’ve been putting it down to stretching but I don’t remember it being quite like this with DD.

Just wondering if it’s worth a call to the day assessment unit? Community MW said to call there if any issues after 16 weeks.

Hi, I’ve just had something very similar at 17 weeks which has coincided with my bump becoming much more visible. I contacted the midwife and she saw me today to check the heartbeat of the baby. This was more for reassurance though as she did say this type of pain is common at this point and just to watch out for severe pain and of course bleeding. Mine lasted for about 2 days - no harm getting in touch with your day unit but from reading up a bit this type of period like pain does seem quite common at this point in the pregnancy x

I had the same at 19 weeks (now 21). It’s worth giving them a call because they can ask you some questions and triage you based on your responses - they asked me about whether the pain woke me up, for example, and whether I had felt the need to take painkillers. My answer to both of those questions was no and they reassured me that I didn’t need to go in but should call back if things got worse. It also meant that there was a note on my record and the sonographer was aware at my 20 week scan.

Thanks both. That’s helpful. I’ve got lower back pain now and pain that’s heading into my thigh so it probably is worth a call in the morning.

I had lower back pain too at the same time. Good idea to call in the morning if it doesn’t seem to be clearing on its own.

I had several days of period type cramping at 19 weeks, now 22 weeks and all good. It stopped after about 3 days but I found it super stressful especially as not much movement at that point! I did end up
phoning triage for reassurance and they said not to worry unless >1h of continuous cramping and not controlled by paracetamol.
