Still experiencing pregnancy symptoms over a week after abortion

I have no one else to speak to, no females I can confide in. I feel so alone right now. Please help me if you can.

i am in my early twenties and decided to start a course in September. I got in. I found out I was pregnant and after some time (11 weeks) I decided that an abortion would be the best option for me as I was not ready and I am not at all able to carry a child at this point in life.

After following all the steps given to me by my doctor, I bled for just a few hours. There was no cramping, but I thought that was because of the pain killers I took whilst taking the other pills. There were huge blood clots and some white stringy looking stuff mixed with it. The next day, the bleeding was light, still no cramps and by the end of the day there was just a tiny blood clot.

the days following, I had no bleeding but I noticed that just 4 days after, I still was having morning sickness and my breasts were very swollen and tender as they were before. I thought the symptoms would’ve been gone by now. The morning sickness isn’t as bad, but the nausea is, the breast pain, some pain in my pelvis (mild), fatigue and I recently started seeing brown discharge like 2 days ago. I am worried that I might still be pregnant and I do not know what to do. Please, can I have some advice on this?

First of all, try not to worry and you are not alone. If you can take another test in a couple of days (and I would give it a few days just for your hormones to sort themselves out) if it is negative for HCG, then I think you are sorted. But also, given the doctor waiting lists, you might just book an appointment to discuss your concerns, you can always cancel if the symptoms lessen and the test is negative.

I am in Jamaica, so It’s not as easy as setting an appointment and waiting. Everything costs money and one of the reasons I can’t carry a child is because I am not financially able to. To just sit with a doctor and ask a few questions would cost me, which is why I am absolutely freaking out right now. I had already spent money I didn’t have and as for the guy, he bailed on me when he found out so he definitely can not help me. I just want to know what is happening with me, it’s really just the not knowing that is killing me.

I understand you must be worried, especially doing this alone and with no one to talk to. It can take as much as up to two weeks for symptoms to subside, especially sore breasts. How long has it been exactly since you first took the pills?
I've had to do this before and my experience was pretty much the same in terms of what happened on the day, I took the pills, a few hours later I passed large clots and then bleeding subsided pretty rapidly. Not everyone experiences vast amounts of pain, especially if you were given strong pain killers. Were you advised to take another pregnancy test 2-3 weeks afterwards?

The hormones in your body that cause pregnancy symptoms will last a while unfortunately. Usually they tell you to wait 2 weeks after an abortion to do a pregnancy test to see whether the HCG has gone. So unfortunately you’ll probably feel symptoms for a while yet. In 2 weeks since you bled take a pregnancy test and if it’s still positive you’ll have to go back to the doctors. So sorry you’re going through this xx

Wait a few weeks and do a test.
It should be negative.
It will take your body a while to go back to negative.

Hi, thank you so much for responding. I took the pills 25/07, almost 10 days ago. The doctor said I should’ve bled for a week, but it was only heavy on the night I took the pills with large clots and what I described before. Then the day after, little to no bleeding with a small clot.
I feel a little better now that you said you went through similar. When did your symptoms subside? Even just now, I woke up with morning sickness

Thank you so much! It’ll officially be 2 weeks in the next 4 days, I’ll wait and see how I’m feeling then and I’ll try to update you.

@Pleasehelpme212 its normal once you have passed the pregnancy for bleeding to be very light for some people. Your hormones will still be all over the place so wait another week and do a pregnancy test.
