Reassurance - what to expect miscarriage at 7 weeks

I am 7+ 1 today and measured that today in a private scan. Unfortunately a heartbeat wasn’t found. I am booked for EPAU but that was going to be for MC management.
I have started to spot so assuming I’m going to MC naturally. I’m so scared. I’m petrified of the pain of passing the baby . What will this feel like at 7 weeks? Will it be like a normal period? Sitting waiting is frightening me so much. When should I expect to pass the baby. I just want this nightmare over and I’m struggling before it even starts. I’m heartbroken x

Hi so sorry that you are going through this. I think it will vary. I had a loss around 6 weeks. It was like a period for me ut little more painful with back pain they physical was not too bad. I managed to sleep it off (after crying myself to sleep). It seemed to be quick for me, was around 2 days heavily then tailed off but everyone is different. Try to cuddle up with a hot water bottle, take tablets and just let yourself feel what you need to feel and hopefully you have people to support you. Sending love.

I had a miscarriage at 9 weeks but I believe development stopped just before 8 weeks. I started spotting a few days before I miscarried. It was quite a bit of blood and period like contractions pushing tissue out but none of it was horrendous, sad yes, but not unbearable. I actually went to work that evening as it had tailed off quite significantly and I wanted to take my mind off things, although probably wouldn’t recommend that! I do think everyone is different though and I maybe got “lucky” with my experience.

I'm very sorry you are going through this, it really is heartbreaking. I would recommend a hot water bottle to help ease the cramps (and painkillers if you want them - I found that I didn’t need them in the end but had some nearby just in case).

Similar happened to me, I went for my 7 week scan and although the heartbeat was there the baby was measuring at around 5 weeks or so, I had to wait for the heart to stop beating, once it did, I passed it naturally, it was still in it's little sac but resembled nothing like a baby, honestly, the pain was like the worst period I have ever had, but eased fairly quickly. But I promise you will get through this, although right now it's ok to grieve. Sending the warmest of thoughts to you. I hope you get some answers at the EPU xxx

I had a MC at 11 weeks, total surprise (no scan prior) - if it helps, mine was over incredibly quickly, within a few hours. When I had a scan next day, they said it's likely to have stopped developing at least a couple of weeks prior. I didn't really have any pain, I would just say best to stay at home if you can so you can use bathroom freely, and get some nighttime pads (don't use tampons). I didn't look at what passed.

Thank you. The spotting completely stopped. I have the hospital at 4 so assuming they will give me the options of what I can do. I have no bleeding no pain but still have PG symptoms. It’s so cruel x

How did you get on at the EPU?

I can’t believe it ! They found a baby and a heartbeat ! The private clinic wasn’t measuring the actual baby !!!!!! I’m in shock. I’m worried though because I know when I ovulated exactly and the day I had sex. Measuring 6+1 however they did say it may jump a few days at the next scan. I am in such shock. But I did have slight spotting last wondering if it was from the scan. I just can’t believe how they got is so wrong x

wow, you need to get a refund from that scanning place. Congratulations!

I had spotting on and off through my first trimester and a little in the second but I’m 18 weeks now and all is fine, it’s very common but I know how worrying it is. You could ask about progesterone - there is evidence that it helps maintain a pregnancy if there has been spotting and once they have done a scan to show viability they should prescribe it. I took it until 16 weeks. Give the EPU who NHS scanned you a call and explain about the progesterone xx

I had a missed miscarriage at 10 weeks and chose to do it naturally which after the event I regretted. It took 2 weeks to start and was painful and traumatic for me as everything came away at once in public and there was so much blood
If I had a choice again I'd chose surgical management
I'm sorry you're going through this as I found personally no one wanted to talk about it with me
