Toddler illnesses and pregnant

I have a 14 month old and I am currently 14 weeks pregnant. I had Covid two weeks ago and I am pretty sure I have come down with hand, foot and mouth (he has it at the moment and I’m starting to feel unwell with a temperature). I’m very anxious as we had a late loss with our first pregnancy (before him).

He’s in childcare full time as both me and my partner work, and he is coming down with something every week or two.😫

I’ve been trying to be sensible in terms of not sharing food / cutlery with him, not kissing on the mouth and my partner is doing way more than me at the moment, but it’s impossible not to be close to him when I’m looking after him. He sticks his fingers in his mouth and touches my nose/mouth, he wants hugs like any baby does etc. I’m so worried this latest virus will affect the pregnancy or that I’ll get slapped cheek or CMV from him next. Pregnancy is so long and we still haven’t even gone through winter yet!!

Please can anyone reassure me that many, many women have juggled toddler illness and pregnancy and their babies have been ok?!

As you say yourself many, many women have been pregnant with existing children/toddlers and their babies have been fine. Me included - DS brought some hideous things home from nursery, including D&V through last Easter weekend, and little DD is fine.

It is completely reasonable to worry though, I'm so very sorry for your earlier loss. Also it is hard being pregnant and poorly! Keep taking your sensible precautions, and hope all will be well for you Flowers

I know this must be very stressful for you, but it is true that the majority of women who deal with pregnancy and toddler illness at the same time have healthy babies. I myself was the toddler constantly picking up illnesses every week at nursery and passing them on to my pregnant mum. My little sibling is perfectly healthy and has just graduated university. Try not to worry.
