Confused about pregnancy test

I feel a bit stupid for posting this really but I’ve just felt confused. I would have conceived in March, in April I had a strong positive pregnancy test, with all the pregnancy symptoms (hard bloated belly, heartburn, tiredness, swollen tender breasts etc), but I then had negative tests straight after. I haven’t missed a bleed each month, however some of them haven’t been ‘normal’. About 2 weeks after when conception would have been, I had light spotting instead of my normal heavy period.
I just don’t understand how I could have had such a strong positive test if I wasn’t pregnant, especially with all the signs. I have been taking macca root since the beginning of the year for something else and didn’t realise it could make you extremely fertile. I have been under a lot of stress (escaping a DV relationship) so I don’t know if that could have made a difference.
My stomach now is still constantly bloated and hard, I have also had some weird sensations but don’t know if that could just be wind.
Has anyone got any advice? I was thinking it could have been a chemical pregnancy but not sure.

I’d call the EPU or 111 to see if they’ll scan you? Could be a number of things but better to check?

I would also say get an appointment with the Early Pregnancy Unit (EPU) to put your mind at ease, and get booked in for some bloods with your gp. I’ve had a chemical before and whilst I got a few fairly dark pregnancy tests, when they did start to fade I had a very normal period.

How soon after the positive test did you get the negative tests?

Thank you, I didn’t know that you were able to just call and get a scan, I thought you’d have to have it confirmed first that you’re definitely pregnant. I do feel like I just need to have my mind put at rest though

It was the day after that I had a negative test, but if the positive one was just a faint line and I had no symptoms I wouldn’t think anything of it, it’s just been so confusing! I will try and get some sort of scan if I can so thank you

Mecca root can mess with your periods. I took it to try and conceive and my periods were all over the place and I didn’t ovulate at all!

Have you taken a digital test? I would do that first, the one with a weeks indicator. They are accurate. Don’t worry now, stress can make you bloated and feel all kinds of things and it sounds like you have been very stressed recently!!

ThatsGoneAndDo · 27/07/2024 20:36

So you've had no period since April?

Have you done another test recently?

I would definitely do another pregnancy test and then I echo the others about the scan just to rule out anything potentially serious. It could be a molar pregnancy, ectopic, or it could have been a chemical pregnancy but compounded with stress causing the symptoms and messed up periods etc.

Thank you, I am thinking it was probably a chemical but I have ordered a digital test to do. I also saw about the hook effect, do you think it’s possible it could be that?
