Early pregnancy experiences?

I’m wondering if anyone has any experiences with brown discharge and light period pains in early pregnancy? Did this end in miscarriage or did everything end up being okay? I started brown spotting Sunday evening and the brown spotting stopped Tuesday night, but I’ve had continuous light ‘period pains’ for around a week. I’m 5+5 and had two previous miscarriages,
Thank you

I've had light bleeding with 2 of my previous pregnancies. One of those ended in miscarriage, but when i was pregnant with my youngest daughter I had the same, bled lightly around week 6 but bright red and carried on as normal just to put your mind at ease. Think I bled for about 3 days. I know its horrible I feel the same atm as think I am pregnant like you 5 weeks not as far along but it's always in the back of your mind. Don't think that fear ever goes away till after a scan. Fingers crossed for you it all goes well 😊

Also just like to mention at the moment I've got bad period cramps like bad but sure I've had those before and just settled with time.

Was your miscarriage brown spotting? My first one I had pink spotting for 4 days before it started and my second one I had brown discharge at nighttime and by morning I was bleeding heavy. I’m just so confused as I’ve had no spotting the whole of today but still had cramps. Would a miscarriage spotting stop? Congratulations by the way x

Mine started bright red spotting but just got heavier with my miscarriage. But I also totally understand how you feel at the first sight of any blood even brown. I conceived within 2 months after my miscarriage and again around the same time about 6 weeks started to spot brown and then a little fresh blood for about 3 days then it just stopped and the pregnancy progressed as normal, if that helps put your mind at ease a little.

Is it just cramps you have the moment and no bleeding? .. I know cramps are totally normal I've had them bad with previous pregnancies that have progressed fine at the beginning.
Thank you x

I had bad cramps sometimes during early pregnancy, I used to have to take paracetamol for them (which isn't something I normally need!)

I'm currently 5+5 with my fifth pregnancy, I lost the last 4 very early on. I've not had any bleeding or spotting so far, I'm aware that could very well change. Because of my history I'm about to go on a whole host of medications to give it the best chance. Have you contacted your EPU? They can give you a scan to make sure there's nothing wrong and give you advice and support.

So last week I had my bloods done on Tuesday and Thursday and they went from 2200 to 4035 in 48 hours and then on Friday at 5+0 I had an internal scan where they could only see a gestational sac but they said this was normal for so early on and I needed to go for another scan in two weeks. I’ve taking 150mg of aspirin every night and I’ve been told if they can confirm a viable pregnancy at 7 weeks they will put on progesterone because I’ve had two recent losses but they said they won’t prescribe this until they confirm a fetal pole and a heart beat. Obviously the spotting started the Sunday and it’s thrown me a bit especially because both my previous miscarriages were so different. I’ve booked a private scan on Saturday just to see what’s going on and weather I need to prepare for another miscarriage because 02.08 feels so far away with EPU.

@Lauren1999 I have this. Hopefully it's a good sign it's different to your previous miscarriages.

I'm 5+3 and have been brown spotting since 4+5 (variously pale and dark brown). It was also pinkish/ rusty at various points the first day. My cramps are sometimes central, sometimes left side concentrated (the side I ovulated from), and I've also had weird pelvic/ abdominal pains and twinges that aren't like cramps

I immediately went to the EPU walk in on Friday to try to rule out ectopic and landed myself with a dire Pregnancy of Unknown Location label because they couldn't see anything anywhere. However they tested my HCG and progesterone and because the former was below 1000 and the latter was above 60 they (very tentatively) said it didn't (currently) look like an ectopic or failing pregnancy.

I have a pretty make or break follow up scan tomorrow to try to locate the gestational sac. It's been a very stressful few days.

Re. the potential progesterone prescription - do you know what your levels were? Did they also test these?

so I started spotting Sunday night and stopped spotting last night and I’ve had no spotting today just cramps! Both miscarriages have been very different. I just feel so confused and I’m not sure how I’ll deal with a third miscarriage. I had on and off cramps about two weeks now! They’ve been like continuous light period pains all day today though

I can imagine how stressful this and I really envy people who have a healthy pregnancy with no issues and added anxiety. I really really hope everything goes okay for you and stays positive! Best of luck for tomorrow! Xx

Re. the potential progesterone prescription - do you know what your levels were? Did they also test these?

Edited

yes so last Tuesday my levels were 2200 and on the Thursday they were 4035! But they won’t prescribe me progesterone until they confirm it’s viable at 7 weeks which I think is silly as both my miscarriages never even made it till 7 weeks and something is telling me this one won’t either! X

@sirensong how did you get on? I have had very similar symptoms the last week

Lauren1999 · 02/08/2024 20:36

Hey!
on Monday I had heavy red bleeding and I really thought it was the end. I had another scan today which showed a 7 week old baby with a heart beat and I’ve been given progesterone. Early pregnancy unit said they can’t find any cause for any of the bleeding I have had but it can be very common. I don’t by any means think I’m ‘safe’ yet or this is going to be a healthy pregnancy but for my own mental health this last week has taught me I need to take it one day at a time or it’s going to ruin me and my relationship. I really hope everything is okay for you xxx

@Lauren1999 that's brilliant news, and very encouraging for those of us in a similar boat x

I really hope you get the same outcome, I know how draining and what an anxious time it is! X
