Should I bother with third sweep?

I'm being induced on Saturday at 38+6. So far I've had two sweeps. One today and one on Sunday. I've been offered a third on Thursday. My cervix is forward but firm and closed so couldn't perform the sweep both times.

I'm feeling for the sake of 48 hours would I rather try another sweep or just to straight for induction on Saturday. Feel that if it's not favourable it's gonna do nothing anyway and just get me stressed, if it is then I will likely have an easy induction anyway.

Once started I had a fast labour with my daughter (4 hours) so there's a big benefit to being in the hospital when it starts. However she was premature and waters broke 48 hours before that. Waiting til sat also means I can have a calm handover with my daughter and she's being looked after and i can relax a bit.

My sister's had two inductions and both times the babies were born within 12 hours, I generally have a family history of fast labours.

They'd start with the cook balloon first and then pessaries after that. I'm diabetic so am worried about extended time in the hospital as the food isn't very diabetic friendly.

Any advice.

Thanks.

Hi,
why are you being induced so early?

PurpleDiva22 · 23/07/2024 19:58

I would be feeling the exact same way as you and not bother. The success rates of sweeps are really hard to measure and the ones I had in less than favourable conditions were slightly painful. I'd just wait for induction. Best of Luck

Cos I'm diabetic. It's not that early. It's quite late for a diabetic actually

I wasn’t asking to be rude I was asking so that I could give my opinion on the sweep. I had 2 at 40 weeks, my hind waters broke but not my actual waters and I ended up having quite a horrific labour. I wouldn’t have sweeps again. Hope everything goes well.

Get a bikini wax! Everything off. Honestly, it works. Gives your body a jolt and it goes into labour.

Personally I would have the sweep to avoid induction.

I went into labour after a 3rd sweep with both of my last two babies and had them the next day. I was 13 days overdue both times, so that might have had an impact.
