Forgive me for the worry, I tend to be quite relaxed in pregnancy but I have a concern...I have tickets for a heavy metal gig in a couple of weeks, I will be 6 weeks pregnant. I have had 2 miscarriages before now so I'm quite concerned that the high decibels of Korn are going to be damaging to the pregnancy. I can't find a lot to say either way other than it can damage a babies hearing in late pregnancy. It has been said to me that this can cause a miscarriage but I don't know if that's right or not..

You’ll both be fine, imagine how much padding and water there is between your little bundle of cells and the sound. They will be unable to experience sound until at least 16 weeks.

Just stay out of the pit! (You’ll probably be too tired anyway!)

My dd when to many concerts even a festival in utero, she's a professional musician now

I’m 8 weeks and our little bean has been to 2 concerts already (Hoobastank and Kids in Glass Houses, so not as hard as Korn lol) They’ll be absolutely fine, like a PP said just stay away from the pits :) have an amazing time!

I went to see Kasabian when I was 17 weeks pregnant with my DD 15 years ago - she was fine and now a big Kasabian fan !
I went to lots of gigs when pregnant with my thirty year old , Smashing Pumpkins,Manic Street Preachers etc and he was fine x

I went to see ac/dc a few weeks ago (23 weeks), baby was loving it but I was deaf as a post afterwards 😂 enjoy your gig, just stay out the pit!

GingerLiberalFeminist · 22/07/2024 21:30

I cancelled all my giga but that's because i know i couldnt resist moshing!

SnapdragonToadflax · 22/07/2024 21:32

I saw the Pumpkins when I was 19 weeks and it was fine, child is now 5 😁 Quite a few other gigs too but that was probably the loudest. I did have to have a sit down though, which was annoying.

Enjoy Korn! I haven't forgiven then for cancelling Download in '98ish.

My 6 week pregnancy quite enjoyed Nickelback albeit with my coat over my tummy to muffle the sound.
Now late teens with no hearing issues at all.

Equally, my 12 week pregnancy thoroughly enjoyed Metallica & Download.

I did stay out of the mosh pits admittedly.

😃

Definitely go! Music is good for you, and generally what’s good for you is good for the baby. Have a great time!

Tdcp · 23/07/2024 08:36

Thanks everyone, it makes me feel so much better hearing that so many of you have been to gigs when pregnant :)

The majority of miscarriages are caused by a chromosome issue with the foetus. Anyone suggesting loud music could cause this is wildly ill informed, and I hope you tell them that, as it only adds to the stigma and shame around miscarriage's by suggesting the women did something to cause it. Enjoy the concert.

I was pregnant in lockdown so no experience as all gigs were cancelled. Once your baby is here though, if the nursery rhymes and lullabies get too much for you Google twinkle, twinkle Little Rock star. Korn are one of the bands they do lullaby versions of. My 2 loved it. The Metallica one is pretty good too.
