Infected bug bite - antibiotics - 9 weeks (very worried)

Hey everyone,

I am an incredibly nervous expectant mother (previous pregnancy loss) and this community has really helped and supported me.

A few nights ago, I was bitten up by goodness knows what (8 bites all over body). Im from the UK so never really worried about it. Didn't think anything of it, but this one bite on elbow and tummy has got red and the one on my elbow is warm to touch.

I went to the walk-in centre and he prescribed anti-biotics and said if it starts to spread to start taking them. He said it was borderline for infection.

I feel stuck - I don't want to take anti-biotics this early as I am scared (I lost my pregnancy with my son at 33 due to birth defects) but also don't want to leave my body at the risk of fighting of an infection. (Included pictures of bites)

The medication I took is called - co-amoxiclav?

Many thanks x

Follow doctor's advice. Antibiotics won't harm a pregnancy.

Have you tried antihistamine cream?

Agree with this though.

Agreed follow the Dr's advice. You'll have been prescribed pregnancy safe antibiotics. Better to start taking them sooner rather than later as they're more likely to work. Bites can be nasty, my friend was bitten by a horsefly and needed antibiotics

Infection is a risk to your baby, antibiotics are very unlikely to be. I agree with a pp who says you could try antihistamine cream. Perhaps hydrocortisone?

Do you normally react to bites?
I don't think I've ever had an infected bite but always react - they swell, itch, go red and are often hot.
I had this one Thursday night, just sitting in my front room!

Try after bite roll on. Anyone looking at when I went uld get bitten would think I had a major infection but I just react very badly to all bites. This rolled on has brought the redness and ridiculous swelling down within a day - try that and if not, just take the anti biotics.

Thank you everyone! The doctor told me to wait until tomorrow before I start taking which is why I'm wasting time worrying, rather than taking...I've had a past minor reaction to amoxcilln which is part of my anxiety also but doctor did know about this

I lived on antibiotics when pregnant with my son. I had recurring utis the whole way through. If left they borderlined kidney infections and even caused bleeding so I just took the antibiotics Everytime I need them and it was a lot 🤦🏼‍♀️. He's 6, tall, slim and intelligent. Try not to stress but do treat the infection, it will be really hard on your body to have to try fight off an infection right now x

Ouch. I get like this with Mosquito bites it is horrid. Have a read of the leaflet inside. The Dr will be aware your pregnant and would prescribe what is safe at for you. If you have concerns the experta are the Pharmacists and your can nip in to a pharmacy and get a consultation. You can also speak to your OBGYN I assume your seeing one foem previous experince.
I wouldn't personally mess about with infections in pregnancy.
