As the title really. I’m 32 weeks and measured a bit big on fundal height so sent for an ultrasound. I’ve been referred for GTT (normal bmi pre pregnancy, no glucose in urine but realise it needs to be checked). I know loads of people say growth scans are inaccurate but this has got me worried. Anyone else have a similar experience - how did it turn out for you? Cheers

Yes my baby was the same everything measured big but the AC was huge....she was born at 38 weeks weighing 8lb 3oz so she was a big baby they were right but she was all fine nothing to worry about 🙂 I was also sent for another GD test but that was negative

Nocoffeenotalkie · 18/07/2024 21:54

Negative for GD and baby was born at 39 weeks weighing 9lbs so like previous poster, she is just a big baby.

No GD for me but had a large abdominal reading like you around the same time by my next scan it was back within range. Baby did end up being born 10lb 15oz at 38+6 but the growth scans were estimating 8lb so I would always take them with a pinch of salt the way baby is lying can really affect measurements. My baby was breech so had a section but loads of people deliver big baby’s. You will have a follow up growth scan in a few weeks and am sure it will be back to normal and probably been just lying funny at this scan.

Both my boys were over 95/96th percentile abdominal measurement from 20 week scan onwards. Negative for gestational diabetes both times. They were 9lbs 4 and 8lbs 2. I had the second one a week earlier then I had my first. Both sections. Healthy sturdy boys !

Hi there, it's a labour ward midwife. Just this morning I looked after a woman with a baby with an AC over the 95th centile, estimated fetal weight 3.5 kg at 36+4. She developed high blood pressure towards the end of pregnancy so was induced for that at 39+0. Propess did nothing for her, nor did 3 doses of gel. She had her waters broken at 21:45, 1 cm at that point. Started on the hormonal drip at 00:40, got epidural at 4 am, 2 cm dilated at 04:20, fully dilated at 07:45, pushed the baby out at 08:30. Baby's weight 3.7 kg. It's not your typical story with a big baby, however it's not uncommon either. I hope it helps.

Negative for gestational diabetes my baby was measuring big on my scans apparently, 95th AC but she was born at 39 weeks and weighed 8lb so not massive but a good size.

Sara1988 · 18/07/2024 22:35

My baby measured big ac at 22 weeks but middle for everything else. Did my gd test and got really good results, low blood sugar, had another scan at 28 weeks and ac high but everything else has caught up. Will just be having a big baby I guess. Try not to read too much into it.

I have T2D and my second DC had a large abdominal measurement and was induced at 37 weeks weighing 8lb 1oz exactly as predicted. To start with you could tell they had a bigger belly but it got more in proportion as they grew and now at 17 months you would never know it was bigger at all so don't worry too much if it's quite disproportionate at this stage.

Hi lovely, I'm 31 weeks and scan measured 92nd centile last week but my test came back negative for gestational diabetes. Just some reassurance that it isn't always that, sometimes babies are just big! x

Thank you everyone.

i am nervous about having GD but like you say it might not be that. I do eat a lot of crap though (and always have …and was able to stay normal weight so maybe that’s where I’ve gone wrong).

I had extra scans due to low papp-a. Baby measured 91st + percentile at every one, and the abdominal measurement was off the chart. They followed their own curve perfectly though. Last scan I was 40 weeks and weight was estimated as 9lb 13. Baby was born 11 days late at 10lb 11. Naturally without induction.

I wasn't tested specifically for GD but urine was always fine and I don't have a high BMI and had fairly big babies before.

I also eat a lot of crap lol but GD has nothing to do with what you eat so don't be worrying about that. If you did have it, there's nothing that you will have done to cause it x
