Eating unhealthy and loads

Hey, I’m totally a worrier and totally worried I have hurt baba in some way. Since week 7 to now (week 11) I have eaten next to no fruit or veg, just carbs ie. Pasta bread etc and upped my chocolate dosage (I never used to be a chocolate lover!). Eating any fruit or veg in the past 4 weeks would make me feel nauseous. I have my prenatal tablets every day but apart from that not very healthy foods. I have read horrors on google about unhealthy foods in 1st trimester. Is it true I should be worried now? I am starting to be able to eat healthier foods now but is it too late?
just to top off the bad eating, I can’t stop eating :(

there's only so much you can do when you're feeling really nauseous. it's more important to eat something and get the energy from it rather than eating nothing at all, and taking your vitamins will help ensure that you're getting the essentials. now that you feel a bit better, just do your best to get a mix of fruit and veg (and fats and protein!) alongside your carbs - but don't feel bad for sticking to what you could stomach at the time.

When you are nauseous just eat what you like with my eldest I ate onion ring crisps and drank lemonade for .6 weeks because that was all I could stomach.

Mrsjayy · 16/07/2024 12:14

Oh and pickled beetroot by the jar!

FlakyAquaQuoter · 16/07/2024 12:16

Please don't worry! You got something in and that's what matters. If it wasn't beige it wasn't happening for me until at least week 20!

I hate haribo and ready made mash for about 20 weeks. That was it. All fine.

MrsB2019x · 16/07/2024 19:44

My DD was fueled by anything and everything beige for the first 17 weeks. She was fine!

This is totally normal! I’m usually exceedingly healthy with my diet but in my first trimester, I eat everything the newspapers say is bad for you - and it’s basically just carbs and the ultra processed form too. You’ll get through it and slowly you’ll be able to eat normally again.

this week I was finally able to eat steak again! It felt like a miracle :)

Haha I did the same. Ready made mash - not even homemade, just the instant stuff full of flavourings. Everything else made me feel awful!

Oh my word the first trimester was a horrific time for me - felt so sick all the time and the only thing that helped was eating loads of utter shite. Crumpets, toast, biscuits, cheese sandwiches, basically anything on the beige spectrum went down the hatch. It’s very common in the first trimester! I started to eat better as the pregnancy progressed (actual fruit and everything!). Baby is 6 months now and totally fine. Honestly don’t worry, just eat what you can keep down.

Lozs1 · 17/07/2024 07:12

Aww guys thank you so much for all these responses! I just love to worry haha. I haven’t really eaten any fruit or any veg these past 4 weeks but now I’m feeling better, I’m going to try harder with this healthy eating. 1st trimester really is a big battle!

I survived on digestive biscuits and all forms of potato for the first few months. Couldn't even take a vitamin tablet until 34 weeks. You just have to eat what you can. Baby gets a lot of nutrition from your stores. It will get easier to eat a bit healthier as the pregnancy progresses!

amidsummernightsdream · 17/07/2024 08:55

Honestly please, please don't worry about this. It's such an awful stage for sickness, you've just got to do (eat) whatever you need to to get through it.

Trust your body, if you're craving carbs, that's probably what you need right now.
It's likely that this stage will pass for you in the next few weeks and you can focus on getting a more balanced diet then.

Just make sure you're taking your vitamins and try enjoy working with the cravings rather than against them.
Otherwise I think it ends up being a cycle of feeling guilty/ denying/ feeling sick/ craving more/ eating worse/ feeling even more guilty.

First trimester is all about survival mode for most of us. I read baby only needs a tiny amount of nutrients and it will take what he/she needs anyway, at your detriment. So he'll steal all your vitamins and minerals and will be ok, don't worry 😉

This knowledge made me feel better during the first trimester
