Teachers maternity pay

Hi. I am expecting my first child and I am trying to calculate roughly what I would expect on my maternity. We get paid monthly so I presume maternity pay will be monthly too? also I earn 37,820 a year. I wanted to know if anyone could help me break this down. My school uses the burgundy book scheme

Not sure on specifics but have a look at Shared Parental Leave for teachers, it adds a bit of extra paid time onto your mat leave!

maternity pay is at full pay for the first four weeks. 90% of contractual earnings for the next two weeks (inclusive of any Statutory Maternity Pay (SMP)); 12 weeks at 50% of contractual earnings and SMP; 21 weeks at SMP; and then nothing.

Hi OP. I'm a teacher just on SMP now (I've been off since Nov) and get £744.90 a month. You will also be able to apply for child benefit once baby is here to add a little extra.

If you do opt for Shared Parental Leave look at SPLIT days as well as KIT as you get 20 days.

@Krissy09 I think basically you “go back” to work over the holidays (but obviously you’re not physically going into work) then restart maternity leave/shared parental leave when the term resumes!

If you google “shared parental leave for teachers” there’s a website (I think it’s TeachersSPL) and you can email the lady who runs it and she’ll talk you through it all. If you pay her, she sorts all of the forms etc too for you!

Your school legally can’t say no to it, so it’s definitely definitely worth doing!

Hey do any of you know how I can work out what my salary look like if I moved down to 3 days a week instead of 5? I am thinking to go part time

They have to; law says you get paid from the day you return which can be 1st day of hols With SPL:
you are entitled to 20 split/kit days that have to be paid (but also agreed with employer)
you can return at any time including the first day of the holidays
you need to submit the documentation at the proper time and get the blocks right . If you have trouble then https://www.teachersspl.co.uk is worth the small fee

my first I had I think 12 additional weeks and this time it’ll be 11.

re pt working there’s a take home salary calculator on TES which is excellent - only ever a couple of pounds out if that
