Hi everyone, feeling confused can anyone with better grasp of biology help? I’m eight 1/2 months post Partum but my periods have not yet come back (breastfeeding). Stupidly had unprotected sex (first time since daughter was born) 23 days ago. I know there’s a chance I could have been ovulating so technically could be pregnant. This week I’ve been having sour taste in my mouth which for me was a strong symptom with both my daughter and my son (4). Says online you can test 21 days after sex but I’ve tested for the past two days and it’s negative. Would it be showing up by now if I was pregnant or not necessarily? Slightly panicking as very much not TTC….

Most people get a positive test 12-14days after ovulation due to implantation occurring 5-7 days later. Meaning it’s highly likely you’d have a positive test if you ovulated 14 or more days ago and were in fact pregnant.

And if you ovulated less than that ago, say 10 days ago where a test could still be negative even if you are pregnant, the sex was too long ago for the sperm to survive.

So based on those 2 facts, I’d say you’re definitely not pregnant!

Thank you so much- that makes sense. X

Panicking and very much not trying to conceive, doesn't equate with having unprotected sex.

Wow that’s really helpful. OP, if it was 21 days ago and say you ovulated 5 days later just for example given sperm can live in the body that long then if you were pregnant it probably would come up on a test at this stage x

Ok thanks Wtfmothernature. I was wondering if the hormone levels could still be too low to show on test as I’ve got such a strong sour/metallic taste but from the timelines you guys have explained it seems like that must be something else . Perhaps periods coming back !

and thanks for the input nannyfanny- sometimes things don’t equate I guess !

I quite expected a big backlash, but it's the truth. How many posters on here, bemoaning the fact that they are pregnant after not using contraception or "pulling out". I'll hold my hand up. I got pregnant in the 60s at 18. We were really naive then. No way would an unmarried girl, living in a village like me,go to the family GP. The pill was in its infancy. He swore I would be ok. Then we had to get married of course. Lesson was learned.
