Hello, wonder if anyone has been in this situation. My 12 week scan has been booked while im on holiday, it’s non refundable so I’m going to have to keep the holiday, they have moved it to before I go away so at least I’ll have the scan, but really hope it’s not too early to detect any problems with the baby. Im 40 so it is on my mind that im at a higher risk. I will be 11 weeks pregnant at the scan they have given me. Is this too early do you think?

It'll be fine, if it's too early they can do an internal scan instead.

Hi

when I went for my scan I thought I was 12 weeks but I was actually 11. They called me back 2 weeks later, it may be the case that they rebook you for a 13 week scan but I don’t think it’s anything to worry about.

thank you, I think I’ll be 11 + 4 so fingers crossed that’s close enough. But hard to tell I guess until I get there :)

I'd ask if there's any for when you're back. I had to go back 2 weeks later when I thought I was 11+5 but measured a bit smaller as it's too early for a few of the tests x

Equally, for my first, my first scan was booked for when I was 13w + a few days, but I measured ahead, so it was too late for some of the tests.

I'd go with the early scan and then go back if they need you to.

I had mine at 11+6 and it was fine but everybody else is right, they'll just book you in again when you're back from holiday if it's too early. So don't worry!

That's fine, I doubt many people have their scans exactly at 12 weeks, most people measure different dates anyway. My scan was at 13 weeks. If it's too early, they'll ask you to come back after your hols.

I thought I was 13 weeks at my scan but they placed me at 11+4, so it's not too early.

They aren't looking for problems at this stage, only baby's size. Baby still looks like a little alien, so it's too early to pick up in anomolies.

You could always have a private dating scan before you go? Or if you're worried about the results of any trisomy tests you could have an NIPT test from 10 weeks. I did both. I didn't want to wait for 12 weeks before the first scan incase I'd had a missed miscarriage.

It depends on the length of baby from head to bottom on whether or not they will offer the chromosonal screening and class it as your official dating scan. Baby needs to be 45-84mm. The lower end of the measurement threshold usually brings people out at about 11+1 weeks, so if you will be 11+4 it will be fine. If baby measures less than 45mm then they will ask to rescan you a week or 2 later (up to 14 weeks is still within the thresholds).
