Changes of false positive?

Hi all,

I have quite a confusing dilemma on my hands and was looking for some advice and support if possible please.

I'm 27 and had a termination back in February, mainly because I felt that I wasn't ready to become a mother and was going through some stressful life changes (moving in to my own home) that I just couldn't think straight to be honest.

Today I have just had a positive pregnancy test again, I have been using contraception so it has come as a shock. I really wasn't expecting the test to be positive.

I used a cheap test from Amazon and am wondering what the chances are of a false positive on these tests? (Have attached pic)

Not sure what I'm looking for here, just some support I suppose, please be gentle on me as I feel awful about it all!

Sorry title is supposed to read "chances of false positive" not changes!

That is a super strong positive, so I would say near impossible to be a false positive; I hope you're ok! Flowers

The chances of a false positive on a pregnancy test are really rare. It doesn’t matter how cheap they are they work the same.

you need to decide what steps to take now. It could be that you feel ready now or termination is the choice you need again.

No contraception is 100%

@sammielouise thank you for your response. It is pretty strong and came up like this basically straight away.

I should have added I did a test a week after my missed period (around 2 weeks ago) and it was negative, but did another today just to be safe!

@Danikm151 thanks for your comment. I know, I think I'm in denial tbh.

Termination is definitely not an option for me again, it was difficult the first time and I swore I would never do it again.

I just feel so stupid that it has happened again this soon, scared what people will think of me deciding to keep a baby only 5 months after a termination.

Don't worry about what anyone else thinks, what's meant to be will be. Sending lots of love x

Ooh that’s a strong positive. Easier said than done but try not to beat yourself up about it & don’t think about what others will say. You had your reasons and made a decision that you thought was best and that’s all that matters. Please be gentle with yourself 💖

kingolo · 08/07/2024 16:15

@cherrybl0ssom5 thank you so much for your lovely comment. Not many people knew about the termination, only my closest friends and family but I just feel so stupid.

I just can't believe it, I went 27 years without ever falling pregnant once and now it's happened twice within the space of a few months x

Oh OP, this is a lot to process. Please be very kind to yourself. That is indeed a strong positive. I am sorry to ask an invasive question and you don't need to answer this but depending on the nature of the termination, are you sure that it completed? It would be unlikely after five months but if there were any retained products then that could account for a positive test. If you have any doubt at all it would be sensible to self-refer to the EPU for a scan to check what is going on.

All the best to you Flowers

@OhTediosity thank you so much for your kind words.

It's funny that you mention that as not long after the termination, I had to go back to the clinic for blood tests as I had another positive at home test. That turned out to be the hgc levels still in my blood left over from the pregnancy. A few weeks later I did another clear blue and Amazon strip, both which were negative.

As you can probably tell, I have been very paranoid about the whole thing (hence the excessive testing post termination to make sure) so this is quite a bit of a shock! x

I've had two terminations in quite quick succession. I kicked myself but these things happen and beating yourself up about it helps no one! You don't need to share the information with anyone, just do what is best for you.

kingolo · 08/07/2024 19:01

@Sara1988 sorry if this is personal, and I hope you dont mind me asking this but how close together were the terminations? And how did you feel about it all? X

They were within the same year. Obviously I had some negative feelings about it - I think it would be more odd if I didn't- but 6 years down the line, I'm now pregnant with a baby that was very much planned and I know more than ever I made the right decision.

kingolo · 08/07/2024 20:48

@Sara1988 yes you are right, we wouldn't be normal if we didn't feel some sort of emotion about it.

I'm glad that you know that it was the right decision, and congratulations on your pregnancy! Take care x

Hi all, just wanted to update the thread to say that I have just gotten a CB digital positive 2-3 weeks so I was definitely in denial about the first being a false positive.
