Looking for advice
im so worried I’m depriving the baby of food because I’m struggling so bad to eat!
im in my second trimester and since the beginning of my pregnancy I’ve not managed to put weight on, I have a bump (second successful pregnancy so expected)
when I mentioned it to my midwife, she didn’t say anything..

I can go all day on 2 very small meals which isn’t ideal.

can I have protein shakes? Would that help?
any tips on high calorie, healthy food?

I have a scan next week so hoping all is ok but really need to eat more. I ate really well last time but it just isn’t happening right now.

Hi Op, just wondering why you are not eating and how that underlying reason can then be addressed?

A smoothie is a great way to pack in nutrition. Banana + frozen berries + Vanilla protein powder + TBSP ground flaxseed (great for avoiding constipation) + milk.

If you don’t have larger proper meals add in a smoothie and plenty of nutritious snacks examples:

Deliciously Ella oat bars
Mixed nuts
Yoghurt and fruit
Cubes of cheese
Dark chocolate
Dried fruit
Oat cakes and a dip
Sourdough/Wholemeal toast with peanut butter
Porridge/Bran flakes/Weetabix with milk dried fruit and nuts
Fruit
etc

When I was pregnant with twins I lived on mashed potato, haribo and strawberries for the first two trimesters. Once I stopped throwing up I couldn't eat much anyway because they were squashing my stomach.

Don't worry too much. Baby will get what it needs from you. Parasites that they are 😂

Hey OP. Try not to worry about not gaining weight. I’m 38+1 and I’ve gained 7.5lbs since I fell pregnant…my baby is weighing 8lb 11 at the moment! I haven’t been eating 3 meals a day, I snack and eat what I fancy. The baby takes the nutrients from what you eat and I must be eating enough lol. I have GD and when I spoke to my diabetic nurse about ‘not eating enough’ his words were that as long as I’m snacking throughout the day the baby will be fine.

@JLT24 I just don’t want to eat. The idea of putting food in my mouth is just so unappealing. Then when I’m eating I can’t keep eating… so weird!! My appetite is usually so good usually.
thanks for that list of foods!!

thanks @AimeeLou84 I’m not even snacking! No idea what’s up with me but I will try to snack more then!

@longdistanceclaraclara that sounds like a diet I can get on board with 😂 thank you

I had fairly bad sickness through my 1st and 3rd trimesters with my daughter.
I only gained a stone in total and was 20odd weeks before I was back at my pre pregnancy weight due to weight loss in the first trimester. I then started to lose weight again in the third trimester and had to find ways of getting a bit more food in. Early afternoon seemed better than traditional meal times.
My daughter was unaffected and was 6lb13 a birth a good weight given I'm 5ft2.
It was only after the birth I felt the impact. I was back at my prepregnancy weight in 10 days and by 10 months on a restricted diet due to my daughters allergies and having to walk for 3h a day I was down 16% and just 6stone12. I collapsed with very low blood pressure and sugars the day before I had to stopped breastfeeding for my mental and physical health.
The low weight gain in pregnancy and struggling to eat meant I didn't have the same reserves to get through the first few months of life with a newborn. With a reflux baby and pnd I didn't have much opportunity for food and drinks in the first 6 months either all combined my body really struggled much more than it ever did in pregnancy
