Pregnant naturally after failed IVF cycle

Hiya

basically what the title says. We had a failed ivf cycle in may (first one) i was very upset but also i knew the stats of it working the first time so we booked a little holiday later that month to try and relax and recover ready to book an appointment to discuss starting my FET, this month my period was late (5 days) but i thought it was due to the failed ivf the month before, anyway i threw up randomly the other week so did a test as and to my absolute shock it was positive! 5 tests later, 2 lots of blood tests and an early scan have all confirmed i am 5 weeks 6 days pregnant! I feel extremely lucky and also scared out of my mind! Has this happened to anyone else? My nurse at the clinic said she has come across this in the past but never this quick. It’s called a spontaneous pregnancy!
just wondered if anyone is on the same journey as me ? X

This happened to my friends. Same as you, she fell naturally pregnant immediately after IVF loss after 5 years of not ever conceiving naturally.

Huge congratulations OP 💐

Aww that’s amazing ! I’m still finding it hard to believe ! Like your friends we have been trying for years, we have been together for 11 and it’s never happened! I think until I give birth I’m still going to find it unbelievable ha!
thanks so much for replying, I’m new to mumsnet x

Congratulations! Not quite the same situation, but we had signed all the paperwork and were due to have our first IVF appointment when I got a positive pregnancy test. It was about 2 weeks before the appointment, so had to cancel which felt weird after so much build up and other tests!

I’m 11weeks now and just taking every day as it comes, scary but exciting! I’m also new to mumsnet 😊

Hi pippin… I’m in a similar position to you but have had a few more fails with the transfers.

had my fourth transfer (second round of ivf nhs) last September which ended in a fail.

I’ve taken loads of time out but was hoping to start my next and final round this week! But noticed my period was late… took a test yesterday and saw a BFP on a dye test and CBD says 2-3. Asked the clinic for blood test - My hcg bloods showed 1,881.

I’ve never seen this before…! I’m feeling super anxious but would love to hear positive results and stories…

wish you all the best :)

Also I have no idea what my next steps are .. have signed up to an antenatal clinic and waiting for a call back which should happen in 2 weeks. But if anyone has any advice let me know!

Congrats! You are really fertile in the month after IVF stimulation - the drugs hang around for quite a long time and you have more follicles than usual. Perhaps that was the nudge your ovaries needed 🥰

Your next steps are the same as any naturally conceived pregnancy - your booking in appointment and the 12w scan. You could also pay privately for a viability scan around the 7w mark if you want some earlier reassurance.

This happened to my friend! Tried for years and was never able to get pregnant. Had one failed round of IVF and was preparing for the second and was waiting for her next period when she realised it never came. She was super emotional at the time too so her husband very gently suggested she take a test and it was positive. She’s now got a 2 year old, and just birth to her second, which she got pregnant with quite quickly!

Congratulations!!

Patientlywaiting7 · 06/07/2024 12:02

That is such amazing news… I’m so pleased to hear from both of you. I’m about 10 months post my last failed ivf transfer - have absolutely no idea what to feel!

I really hope that this works out as I’ve been trying for almost 5 years!

Patientlywaiting7 · 06/07/2024 12:03

I’m going to try and leave the early scan and try to enjoy the bubble. Anxious to go in early and not see anything. I may go at 9 weeks if all goes well …

MrsWindrush · 06/07/2024 12:08

@Pippin87 same thing has happened to me. Had my son vis IVF in 2022, and then this year we've had two failed FET for a sibling - most recently in May. Was preparing mentally for another egg collection round but had a positive pregnancy test this month and am now about 5 weeks pregnant! we haven't used contraception for years and it's never happened naturally before, but I did hear something about fertility being boosted in your late 30's (I'm 37) so maybe that contributed too? Feel nervous but keeping everything crossed!

Hi all, just updating you all , unfortunately for us our darling baby girl Sienna was born sleeping on 17/10/24, we found out at our 20 week scan that our beautiful girl had severe heart defects that wasnt viable with life. We are heart broken. I got to deliver her and she looked so perfect on the outside. I will cherish forever those 21 weeks and 2 days of pure joy she give me. I miss her so much.
i hope you all are doing well and hopefully we will get another chance but Sienna has made me a mam and now she will live safe in my heart forever and that i hold onto.

@Pippin87 I'm so sorry you had to go through that - what a trauma it must have been for you all. Be kind to yourselves over these next months while you recover and process everything 🌸

Pippin87 · 28/10/2024 21:27

@UnravellingTheWorld thank you. I am looking at her little hand and footprints the hospital give us as i type , they bring me comfort but also hard not to be angry that this card is all i have. I have never felt pain like it my heart actually hurts x

@Pippin87 I am so very sorry for the loss of your DD. Flowers

Don't lose hope. I thought it would never happen for us but it did after 10 years of trying, including MMC, late diagnosed endo, and failed IVF.

Sending hugs

RedWinePoliticsAndHair · 28/10/2024 22:42

I'm so sorry @Pippin87. Nothing more useful than that to add, I'm just so sorry.
