Has anyone had a home birth with a bmi of 35+?

I'm planning to but want to prepare myself for any reasons why I won't be allowed. BMI is 36

First child? Probably will be told to be in hospital.

Hi OP I can't relate to the BMI, however please remember that regardless of your BMI they cannot force you to deliver in hospital. If you chose a homebirth they would accommodate, although they may strongly advise against it they cannot force you to deliver in a hospital setting.

I had numerous 'problems' during my pregnancy with DC3, ectopic heartbeats, bleeds and she was even breech until 38 weeks when I had an ECV and I was still set on delivering at home. I think you know your body and what your comfortable with better than anyone.

@TheHopefulMum thank you. I've had a problem free pregnancy so far, haven't put on too much weight and I'm generally quite active so fingers crossed if I stand my ground I'll be OK! My local maternity unit is 'inadequate' and has very high numbers of emergency c sections. I'm kinda all or nothing - home birth or elective if an issues presents itself toward end.

I would recommend listening to some fat positive birth podcasts or reading "Plus size pregnancy" by Dr Sara Wickham who has lots of evidence based info on births :)

My BMI at booking was 43 but not planning a homebirth (I'm quire comfortable in hospitals) so have been doing lots or homework to equip me with the best evidence to prepare for the push back on certain choices (VBAC, water birth ideally)

@VNttc thank you! Have called homebirth team today and they seemed happy to go ahead!
