I genuinely don't remember it being this painful. This is baby number 5. I have no stitches or wounds. No grazes or tears I had a vaginal delivery in the water on Friday. It's been 24hrs now and my tummy hurts so bad.

It hurts to stand and I can't walk much without cramping. I'm on codiene and something and it's not taking the pain away.
Bleeding seems ok but it feels like I'm getting contractions every so often. Worrying a little.
I am resting and have had a nice bath etc but it hurts so much and I now have a head ache too that isn't going away. Is this normal for after pains I heard they can be painful but not this bad!
Also on blood thinners for ten days if that makes a difference.
Thank you.

I think you should ring 111 for advice .

If it's worse than standard after pains then maybe get checked as you could have an infection or retained placenta fragment.

However, I had the most agonising after pains with both. Worse than early labour, I was doubled up groaning. After pains can be that bad, it's the womb shrinking! But if its not normal for you then maybe there's an infection

After pains can be really painful and that’s probably what it is. But best not take any risks when your body has just been through a lot - can you call the midwife?

I remember after no 4 I had so much pain. I think a midwife told me that afterpains get worse the more babies you have: the uterus has to work harder to contract back I think.

But if you're really struggling then as a previous poster said, call the midwifery team or 111 for advice. I hope you start to feel better soon and can enjoy your baby

The more children you have the worse it gets after pains are normal as long as there is no fever and no mass bleeding I had them terrible with my 3rd I was bent over sofa on day 4 crying in pain and expecting it to be worse this time hope it goes away soon x

I feel much better today. It's still sore in one place more than across the whole stomach but the midwife was really reassuring when she called this morning. Will see how I get on. Thanks every one 😊

I'm glad you feel better today, i have had 4 pregnancies 1loss and 3 babies , i was told after my 2nd baby about after pains , i remember feeling real fear with the pain i felt with number 2 knowing nothing about it then.
By 3rd i was well informed and also a midwife told me how they worsen the more pregnancies you have so as soon as i gave birth for the next few days i took regular doses of pain relief and it felt totally managable.
Congratulations!
