Accidentally had expired hummus - worried!

Hello,

Today I opened a sealed hummus tub and after eating around a third, realised it was 6 days out of date. I didnt like the taste but it didnt smell or look off. I'm currently 6 weeks 5 days pregnant and very very worried.

Any reassurence would be greatly appreciated.

I have had pregnancy loss before, however in the third trimester, but has left me scared of any type of loss and scared I have harmed the baby.

I feel so silly!

Many thanks in advance x

@AOMum14

I'm sorry you're worried by this.

Was the seal on the top bulging? Did it feel a bit 'fizzy' in your mouth? If neither of those things it should be fine.

I didn't particularly like the taste but didn't notice anything hugely out of the ordinary! Thank you for your reply!

Isn't it like chickpeas? You probably won't even get an upset stomach. Stomach acid is hardcore

I'm not a medical expert, but I would think to act as you normally would and don't worry. If of course you get food poisoning symptoms at any point, I would consider talking to a doctor or your midwife. Even so, only some specific types of food poisoning are specifically dangerous to the baby (although many aren't fun for the mum 😅). But the chance of you getting food poisoning in the first place is fairly low - your stomach is generally great at breaking stuff down even if it's a lil dodgy.

Even if you did get food poisoning because of it you would likely be fine, I wouldn't worry

Notmydaughteryoubitch · 29/06/2024 07:27

Undercooked chickpeas can be dangerous but slightly out of date hummus is not likely to cause you any I'll effect.

Honestly you’ll be fine - those dates are so conservative, and a load of rubbish in my opinion. I never check them, even in pregnancy, and never get sick
