HCG levels low

So my app tells me I am 5 weeks pregnant but my periods aren't regular nor do I have a bog standard 28 day cycle.

So ended up in ED last Friday (21st) with severe pain who did HCG levels to rule out ectopic pregnancy. Got a call from EPU to go back Sunday morning for blood review (23rd) who did bloods and a scan and said they couldn't see anything so because hadn't been 48hrs between blood draws they wanted repeat bloods today.

21st - 60
23rd - 88.9
Today - 120

So because they didn't double since Sunday they have made me an appointment with consultant as they want to rule out ectopic due to it being so low. She asked if I'd had a bleed. I haven't had any bleeding, just some cramping after the severe pain the other night.

Anyone else any experiences: good or bad because I've resigned myself to the fact somethings probably wrong. My husband thinks we probably just conceived quite late but I'm not convinced.

Hi lovely - sorry you're going through this. I had similar last Autumn (there is a thread somewhere on MN if you can search my name). Unfortunately it did end in a loss after some ups and downs. It randomly picked up at one point, doubling perfectly and then plateaued again. They queried ectopic with me too and were about to give methotrexate but my HCG started falling again and a scan showed no signs of pregnancy other than a slightly thickened womb lining so they were happy to monitor - I started bleeding at 7wks exactly. I think it's officially down as a pregnancy of unknown location. I was quite relieved by the time I started bleeding as it had become very stressful and the fear of ectopic was hanging over me.

Gently I would say you are right to be preparing for the worst as the figures should be going up more than that in a healthy pregnancy.

On a positive note, I conceived straight after (unplanned tbh as had given up on tracking etc!) and am currently at 33wks with our little rainbow boy. 🙏🏼🌈 Sending you best wishes for a healthy pregnancy asap. 💗

Hi lovely. Unfortunately ectopic is always possible but slow rising hcg dosent always mean there's no hope of a successful pregnancy.
My hcg levels didn't double , were low for where they should have been ( had ivf so know dates exactly) and I'm 36 weeks x

Got a 2-3 on clear blue this morning and thought well numbers have risen again to get that and got a bit hopeful.
Just went to toilet and I've started bleeding.
Looks like my gut feeling from start was right.

Sorry to hear that @wifey2023 I've got my fingers crossed for you.
Bleeding is so common in pregnancy so it really can go either way. Unfortunately I've experienced it in both pregnancies , one a miscarriage and this current pregnancy. Bled right up until 20 something weeks.
How many weeks do you think you are.
I had an early scan with our ivf treatment at 7 weeks and even then it was a bit tricky for them to find the sac .
Your hcg levels can't be that low if your hitting the 2-3 weeks threshold on them

@VioIetMoon I'd have no clue as periods aren't regular but going off my last ovulation date about 4-5 weeks. Got my driving test in morning then have a consultant appt to try and see what's happening. The bleeding went from bright red to pink to not there all in the space of an hour and a half. Warm bath, 2 paracetamol and an early night I think.

I think my hcg was early 400's at end of my 6th week so very low but sometimes it clearly can work out.
Ah I understand how fustrating it is with irregular cycles. I've got pcos so cycles be all over the place.

I meant 4/5 weeks from last period as I didn't get one and ovulated spontaneously 2.5/3 weeks ago. Baby wasn't planned but very much wanted.
