Hi all,
looking for a bit of advice for anyone who’s been in a similar situation. Currently 6 weeks and 5 days pregnant with our third baby.
a couple of weeks ago I had a bleed and went to my EPU last Tuesday for an early scan. I had a hematoma which they suspected was the cause of the bleed. There was a sonographer and a student there and initially the sonographer queried if there was an additional gestational sac and had a good look but then confirmed there was definitely just one with a yolk sac and the beginnings of a fetal pole measuring 5 weeks and 6 days.
I decided to go for a private scan on sunday as I really wanted to see a heartbeat for our baby and have some reassurance with a fresh pair of eyes (5 days after the initial scan). This time the sonographer immediately found 2 sacs abdominally ans when she did an internal scan we found the first sac with a healthy heartbeat etc but she said the second sac was empty with possible ‘remains’ the size of a grain of rice of what never developed of the other twin. She measured me at ‘just 6 weeks’ She advised the twin will be reabsorbed and will not grow.
I’m now a bit confused as to what is going on as on the Tuesday there was no sign of even a second sac but by the Sunday there was an obvious progression with not just the healthy baby but also the second sac. I have another ultrasound in 8 days.
has anyone had this happen and ended up with a successful twin pregnancy or will it likely be vanishing twin?
thanks so much!
