Brown spotting at 4 weeks, normal?

SecretHappiness · 22/06/2024 15:09

It’s a saturday so i’m unsure of what my options are and if i should be doing anything at all.

I’m only about 4 weeks and 3 days in according to my calculations and have had light brown spotting for maybe 3 days now after having an evening of light cramps 3 days ago. It hasn’t gotten any worse in terms of spotting, it’s only seen when I wipe and I haven’t had any cramping since either.

I had a mc last year and this is quite different so I’m not sure if i should be concerned because a) it could just be implantation bleeding but does it last this long(?), b) it is still very early on and c) I don’t want to waste anyone’s time.

Before anyone tells me to just google it, I have had quite bad health anxiety in the past and googling symptoms can be a bit of a trigger so I’d rather just ask rather than risk going down the rabbit hole. Thank you!

Yes, it's not unusual. Just old blood shedding and your uterus stretching. Congrats 💐

SecretHappiness · 22/06/2024 15:17

Thank you for responding @Viewfrommyhouse that does make me feel a lot better and it’s in line with what i was thinking. Just didn’t want to dismiss it.
And thank you 💕

Quite normal sweetie. Old blood, anything bright red get checked.

If yr still worrying on Monday, call GP and get an appointment.

For reassurance I was 6 weeks cramps and bit of blood...went to GP sent me to early pregnancy unit for internal scan (as I had previously had a MC and she could see I was anxious and scared) all good....even though very early they could see heartbeat

SecretHappiness · 22/06/2024 17:32

That’s reassuring @CornishTeaTime , thank you. Glad all was well for you x

Oh he's 19 and 6ft 4 now ☺️

But please, please if you're worried call the GP Monday tell the gate keeper/receptionist...Im pregnant and have had problems, bleeding over the weekend I NEED to see a GP today please. Tou do not have to go in to full on details with them...insist you must see one today....and yes if they say is it urgent.

Clawedino · 22/06/2024 17:44

Can definitely be normal. I had brown spotting for a lot of my pregnancy. It got a bit more worrying when it turned to red blood, including a big gush in the middle of the night. My son was fine and is now nearly 2 and a half!

flyinghen · 22/06/2024 17:54

I had this, it's unlikely the EPU will see you until six weeks but if it persists go get checked out when you can. But I wanted to say I had this until my 12 week scan. I had 2 scans before that, I had a pooling of blood somewhere that was totally normal :) my little one is almost 15 months old now!

Colinswheels · 22/06/2024 18:16

I had brown spotting a couple of times in my first trimester with both pregnancies. Worrying at the time but it turned out to be nothing to worry about.

MrsB2019x · 22/06/2024 21:37

I’m in exactly the same boat as you (also 4+3!) I had an ectopic previously so EPU let me have them on speed dial lol. I called them the other day and they reassured me that brown spotting is more than likely absolutely fine but to get checked out if it turns red. Totally understand your anxiety 💜

CornishTeaTime · 28/06/2024 20:29

@SecretHappiness how are you?

How are you getting on now?

I had brownish loss right up to six weeks and she's an adult now!

The spotting stopped on Tuesday, had a scan on Wednesday at 5+0 and they can see a sac in the right place 🤞 not out of the woods yet but have a follow up scan booked for 9th July to check progress

Justanothernamechange1001 · 29/06/2024 03:55

Just for some reassurance, I can pinpoint the day I got pregnant with my 1st but my implantation bleeding went on for so long that I just assumed it was a period. Only afterwards did I realise what it was!

bananaphon · 29/06/2024 05:02

I had this at 7 weeks and I had an early scan and things were ok. I don't think a GP would be able to do anything. I would wait a week or so and have a scan at epu or private. They won't be able to see much at this stage

SecretHappiness · 29/06/2024 07:46

CornishTeaTime · 28/06/2024 20:29

@SecretHappiness how are you?

@CornishTeaTime thank you for checking in with me, that’s very kind of you.
I’m still in a bit of a limbo situation as I did contact the EPU after a couple of days. They were very good and gave me an early scan for when i hit 5 weeks. We saw a pregnancy sac in line with 5 weeks but its position is tricky as I had a c-section with my first and they are concerned it’s growing over it, could be on the other side which would be find. But it’s hard to tell and it’s an only time can give us a clear picture thing. The spotting hasn’t stopped and occasionally has turned worse but then pauses again. I’ll only really know more next week when they’re due to scan me again so we can have a clearer picture of what’s happening.
Im still very happy to hear all the stories of women who went on to have happy and healthy babies despite similar starts. Even if it doesn’t work out this time, it’s still a bit of hope for next time. 💕

Also to add that I am very glad I did make the call to the EPU and got over my fear of wasting anyone’s time. I was told that if it has indeed implanted over the c-section scar it could be dangerous in time, like an ectopic pregnancy. So now i am being actively monitored and have direct line to a nurse that is fully aware of everything.

MrsB2019x · 29/06/2024 20:44

Got everything crossed for you @SecretHappiness 🤞

CornishTeaTime · 11/07/2024 14:04

@SecretHappiness how you doing sweetie?

SecretHappiness · 11/07/2024 14:43

@CornishTeaTime you really are the sweetest. Thank you so much for checking in on me. I haven’t been on much as trying to distract myself at the moment. Not a lot of news. Saw a specialist (actually there ended up being 3 in the room by chance!) and they said it’s a bit of a rare event where the embryo has implanted really low like in placenta praevia and very close to the c section scar. But not on it (at the moment). If it was on it then it would be a game over situation but for now they’re hoping the placenta keeps growing back and away 🤞🏽
So for now, i’m still in limbo! Trying to stay optimistic, lots of giving my belly a gentle talking to (silly but it makes me feel better 😂) and i’ll be scanned again in a couple of weeks to check progress.
I’m being very well looked after by a team of specialists at a specialist hospital now because it’s an unusual situation so that makes me feel better at least. I’m keeping on keeping on.

I hope you are doing well?
Thank you so much for your kindness and reassurance. It really was lovely to be able to come here and have such nice messages and confirmation that I wasn’t being silly to persue further help x

Ahhh that's great to hear you are being well looked after by a great team by tbe sound of it. Ler us all know how the scan goes

TheShellBeach · 11/07/2024 16:15

I'm so glad that things are still going okay for you @SecretHappiness
You've been in my thoughts.

whoops2024 · 11/07/2024 21:02

Do not want to be the bearer of bad news, but sharing an friends experience to encourage anyone concerned to get checked and put your foot down. My dear friend had brown spotting in her pregnancy and was told by many professionals that it's nothing to worry about unless it's red. She persisted but would not get an early scan until she went to a&e and they said "I have no idea why you haven't been scanned yet" and got an early scan to be told "no heartbeat".

A lot of the stories I read on here end up being positive (which is amazing) she too read some of them and thought "maybe it'll be okay" but end of day don't get fobbed off. Keep pushing if you're concerned. She is forever broken from this experience and felt ignored 💔😔

Oh thank you so much @TheShellBeach , so kind to keep me in your thoughts! Between you and @CornishTeaTime youre going to make me feel very emotional (in a good way!). Because it’s so early anyway we haven’t told many people (other than my mum) and I can tell DP is holding himself together for me and DD as I’m absolutely floored with fatigue (was the same with DD) and he’s doing a fair bit of heavy lifting and stepping in along with work so I don’t get to talk about it much at the moment and it feels really nice to. You both checking in just gave me the fuzzies. So thank you x

I will update when I have some news, it’s very much wait and see at the moment though.

In positive news the spotting seems to have slowed and I’ve had no pain since about 5 ½ weeks. Am at about 7 weeks now!
