Should I take a pregnancy test?

My dilemma is just that it’s an emotionally loaded thing for me to go out and buy a test and probably get a negative result. I’ve been through two failed IVF cycles, and with my age (42) I’m very unlikely to get pregnant naturally. However, my cycles have always been regular with fairly predictable periods. This month I was due 3 days ago, but have only had a tiny amount light spotting on and some cramping, and that’s now stopped. But no other symptoms. So this is possibly a perimenopause thing, or just a weird month. Should I wait for a few weeks and see if I get any other symptoms? Hopefully someone who has dealt with infertility can appreciate why buying and taking a test are not something I want to rush to do, when I know it’s very likely to be negative.

Aww that does sound stressful, I’ve struggled to get pregnant so do relate to what you’re feeling.

The thing is you’ll find out one way or the other before long if you’re pregnant. So it just depends how you’ll feel knowing sooner rather than later, and if a negative pregnancy test is just too much to deal with emotionally then maybe wait another day or two.

I am 41 and currently 6 weeks pregnant from an IVF cycle. Have very low AMH so assume I am heading for an early menopause, but as my doctor said - you can get pregnant with the very last egg your body ever produces!

Thanks @AnnieStar12 , that seems the best approach. I’m not feeling any other symptoms, so will only test if something changes. Congrats on your success with IVF, that’s wonderful it’s to hear of it going well for someone in a similar situation, hope for the rest of us!
