Low PAP-A Requesting a redo of final growth scan?

Hi everyone!

Just looking for any advice and personal experiences revolving around low PAP-A growth scans, there accuracy, whether you can request a refund scan and has anyone felt pushed into early induction?

I am 33 and 39.4 weeks pregnant. I had my final growth scan the other day and wasn't very confident with the results. For starters they were running late on appointments (about 40 mins) and by the time I had my scan the lady scanning me seemed to be in a rush and even commented how my baby wasn't in an easy position for scanning and ended up putting on my notes that the scan was difficult due to positioning and this lead to my babies growth scan result dipping low on the chart (estimated 5.14/15lbs) and subsequently leading to my consultant wanting to book me in for an early induction this week despite my due date being at the end of this week. I said to my consultant that I would prefer to reach my due date to give him a chance to come naturally before an induction was considered but she refused and told me earlier was the only date and time they had availability wise and that I had to go for that... I just feel that while experience was wrong and am contemplating asking for extra monitoring and asking for a redo of my last growth scan to get a more accurate take. Has anyone else been through this? If yes, what did you do?

Many thanks,

Hankin.

I too had low Papp A result at 13 weeks. Decided to do my own research and declined growth scans as the data suggests they are often inaccurate. My baby is happy and healthy born at home no issues. Go with your instinct and get alternative opinions and proper informed consent before engaging with induction as they do often suggest in the medical industrial complex. Good luck

Is growth tracking their line or it's dropped? My scan at 39 weeks was accurate and it showed static growth. I went for induction at 40+5 (very low touch, no drip ect) based on scan + monitoring, which passed but only just. Dopplers were borderline high. I'd say it's important to know are they saying baby is small or that growth has stalled? Are you having dopplers to check cord flow?
My advice is to consider the scan as one piece of evidence and look at the whole picture. I would not have induced based on the scan alone, there were multiple factors.
There is absolutely no way though that they can only induce you on a certain day. That's coercive and I would not accept that. Best of luck.

Hi, thanks for your message. They are saying baby is small and that growth has just suddenly flattened out which doesn't match the rest of his scans, all his other scans showed he was on track and they were happy up until this one. Cord function is ok, they detected a slight decrease in function but I have stopped aspirin and put it down to that. Baby however is wonderfully active, hasn't slowed in movement at all and his heart beat is strong.
My consultant was very pushy and only wouldn't let me put the induction back past my due date because she said there was no available spot. I think I will ask for extra monitoring and insist on the date be moved, my instinct is telling me they are wrong, but I am willing to hear them out if I can get a more accurate growth and doppler scan redone. I asked my midwife for a sweep and she agreed and my cervix is softening, so I'm feeling that giving him a chance to come naturally is the best thing... I am so worried that forced induction will distress my baby and that it could lead to further complications.

Thanks for your reply, I will definitely do my research. Could I ask the weight of your baby at birth? They are predicting mine at 5.14/15lbs at the moment.

Just to add, these are the growth charts.

Sounds like a good approach. I remember one sonographer telling me that the AC is a big factor in calculating the estimated weight. If that was measured innacurately then it skews the calculation. Even though my estimated weight was fairly accurate, the charts still had plotted head circumference as smaller at 39 weeks than 37...it's definately not an exact science! The consultants are awful, it's disgusting that they lied to you about availability for induction, it simply isn't true. If you do decide on induction its more likely to go well a bit later on.

Update, sorry quoted wrong reply!!
