Spotting/bleeding 5 weeks on holiday!!

I’m currently on holiday on a Greek island until Wednesday. I would’ve been 5 weeks yesterday but started spotting on Friday evening, the same on Saturday and then a bit heavier yesterday but only when I wiped. Not much hit the pad. It seems to have stopped this morning so far. My friend suggested going to one of the doctors here but with it being the weekend - it seemed hard work and I think they would’ve just told me it’s very early and let nature take its course.

Also, my boobs were very sore at the beginning of the week but seem to have subsided - they’re still a bit tender but not as sore as they were previously. I was also getting numerous cramps and pains a day but yesterday I only got one cramp in the evening.

I’ve brought some HCG tests with me to keep an eye on line progression but not much has changed over the weekend. Barely anything.

This was our first cycle of Letrozole and we felt incredibly lucky at the beginning of the week when we first found out but now it feels too good to be true.

Has anyone had a similar experience and it all turned out to be fine? I plan on calling my fertility clinic today to get an appointment for when we get back.

Hey! Sorry to hear this. I know too well how this feels, have had three losses around 5w and currently preg again.
With my early losses my tests had actually gone a lot fainter before the bleeding started. Do you have pics of your tests?
In this pregnancy I also had bleeding a bit earlier than you (3w4d-4w1d) and kept testing but lines got darker (remember this is a week earlier than you so the lines will appear darker more quickly than at 5w) and now I am 6w2d pregnant.
So it can go both ways but if it was a miscarriage I would have expected the lines to appear lighter? Also the hook affect can come into play after 5w where the test is too saturated so the lines either won't appear darker or will start to get lighter. You can dilute your urine and test again to see if that would help.

Hi @Feb25baby sorry to hear this. I agree with @LacedBouquet, my CP last month, my lines got lighter before the bleeding, do you have pics of your tests?

Hello! Thank you for your replies. In my gut, I believe it’s gone. I have an appointment at GP on Thursday morning as soon as I get back from here. I’ve also called my fertility doctor and have an appointment with them on 2nd July. I think I need more support through this and guidance as I cannot do this round after round.

The first (2 tests) I took last Monday 12dpo/CD30 - I took two from different batches because I couldn’t believe it at first.

The second was Friday morning before spotting started in the evening - 16po and that was the darkest the test ever got.

The third was this morning at 4am and seems lighter but bleeding has stopped.

I would’ve thought the bleeding would be heavier so I’m a little thrown off and 100% confused. If I was at home I would be straight at the fertility clinic.

Sorry to hear this, must be stressful. If I were you, I'd wait until you get back and see your own clinic/doctors - unless the bleeding increases or you have pain. But you never know. i had bleeding at 6 weeks and all fine.

I always have lighter tests into the morning, especially the early hours compared to the evening which are much darker. I wouldn't look too much into this. Your bleeding genuinely sounds like mine. Do you have any more tests to try again this evening so you can get a direct comparison to the 16DPO evening one?

I've had four miscarriages (some from fertility treatment) and the EPU wouldn't see me if before 6 weeks, nor would the GP. Spotting can be absolutely fine/normal. With my first dd I had lots of cramps and three separate bleeds, didn't have any early pregnancy symptoms at all and she was fine. My fertility/recurrent miscarriage clinic offer scans from 6+3 and ivf clinic from 7 weeks, so you may be best off emailing your clinic to see what they'll do. Probably offer you HCG blood tests 48 hrs apart. You can buy those online and you prick your finger and send it off, some pharmacies even sell them. Try to not worry and enjoy your holiday.

@LacedBouquet Thank you and sorry to hear about your previous losses. I don’t have anymore strip tests with me and my partner wants to wait until we get home on Wednesday now as he thinks we’ll get too stressed looking at them so I’ll let you know Wednesday evening the outcome of that test! We have a GP appointment Thursday morning. I just feel like if this was it and it’s over then there would’ve been a lot more blood. I think I’m thrown off because the other symptoms have kind of swayed off a bit too.

@Peonies12 thank you - I’m just going to let it be now and see what my GP says on Thursday.

@seven201 sorry to hear about your losses. Thank you for the advice - I called both GP and my clinic today and have got appointments with both. I’m going to request and look into the HCG tests etc as I am worried my progesterone could be too low as I know they were low from my previous blood tests. I would’ve thought they would’ve suggested a solution to that though before we started but at least I can ask the question.

This is the test we took this afternoon but could only get hold of a clear blue so I don’t know how it compares to the pink ones. I’m lost!!
