Testing amniotic fluid 15 weeks - watery clear discharge

Hello,

i have experienced gushing water type discharge in the mornings for the past couple of weeks plus a general wetness throughout the day! I was petrified that it’s amniotic fluid leaking.

it got a little worse this morning so I went up to hospital. The doctor there was really difficult to understand and agreed to do a prom swab with a speculum.

she was in and out really quickly and the test was negative for fluid. However, I’ve since read (I know I shouldn’t google) that they’re supposed to hold the swab for 10 seconds to soak up the discharge - she definitely didn’t at all so I wondered if I could be a false negative?

just hoping for some reassurance please or your thoughts?

thank you x x

Hey OP. I’ve actually had 2 of these swabs and the swab was inside me for at least 20 seconds and the results took 5 mins. Did they say what it was if it’s not amniotic fluid? X

@AimeeLou84 thanks - I’m definitely more worried now!!

they just said normal discharge as hormones can make everything more watery?

A lot of private places that do early scans also do the same test for around £70 with a result in 20mins if it would make you feel better to repeat it somewhere else. The places that are more gynae led than just pregnancy scanning

@INeedTheStuff Thanks - I did try to look but I can’t see anywhere. I’m in the north west

I mean they are the professionals and I have had more discharge since being pregnant but not gushing. If you are still worried can triage not help or is that where you went? They done mine twice x

@AimeeLou84 because I’m only 15 weeks triage won’t see me - I had to go through early pregnancy unit and GAU to see a doctor. Just don’t have much confidence (she got some results mixed up beforehand too) and I’ve generally had a tough time with the hospital. I’ll just have to do my best to trust all ok, monitor things, and push to be seen again if still concerned x

Yeah just monitor it. Does it have any colour or smell? I was convinced I was leaking amniotic fluid but it wasn’t. They did tell me to use pads and not liners and liners will soak it up better so it’s harder to smell or see the colour. I’m sure all is ok and you’re just worrying yourself. I’ve had such bad anxiety my whole pregnancy I’ve convinced myself it’s always something bad 🫣 x

@AimeeLou84 no it’s clear and no smell as far as I can tell. I’ve had many miscarriages previously and this is the furthest I’ve been so I’m worrying daily. I also have had some of my cervix removed previously so conscious of that and don’t want that to cause any issues x

I wish you all the best with this pregnancy. If someone knows of anything more stressful than being pregnant I’d love to know what it is! X
