Hi, this is an odd one!

I went for a scan on 31st May and a gestational sac and Yolk sac were seen and I was measuring about 5 weeks. I was told to return back in 2 weeks to see a heartbeat as no baby was seen yet with it being so early.

I returned, I should have been 7 weeks but there is was no sign of a baby BUT another gestational sac and yolk sac was there and this was measuring 5 weeks. They didn’t see this 2 weeks ago!

I’ve been referred to the hospital and I am seeing them in 6 days.

has anyone experienced a twin pregnancy where one twin is 2 weeks behind but the first one did not develop? My head is wrecked at losing a baby but maybe there’s hope with this second one ❤️

I have had two twin pregnancies.

The first one, early on I was experiencing bleeding. Went for early scan. I was told "it's twins". Bleeding was super bad. I went back. One twin had died. I was told this was "vanishing twin" which is where one doesn't make it and gets reabsorbed. The other one is healthy. Sadly for me, the other baby started dropping off the growth chart. And it too died.

I ended up having an operation to remove the pregnancy.

A couple of months after I got pregnant again on my first period.

Obviously nervous (and they were worried about ectopic) went to early scan...

Two black sacs were there. Twins again. At first there was just black circles and no babies.

Went back. Both had heartbeats but one was always smaller and behind.

Anyway after a very long pregnancy. They arrived.

Non identical twins. They are at primary school now. And one was smaller than the other... like she grew slightly later

I wish you luck. Sometimes it's a case of watch and wait.

Thank you! This does seem like vanishing twin syndrome but like you say, I need to wait and see. Your twin success story in the end gives me hope.

Didn’t want to read and run. I’m so happy you got your beautiful twins the story of your first pregnancy made me feel so sad, that must have been so traumatic x
