Insatiable hunger, weak, miscarrying why?

I recently had a missed miscarriage, a blighted ovum, I had an abs horrendous experience sadly from when I hit around 6 wks, I felt intensely weak and very faint all of the time to point some mornings I couldn't get off the bed! I couldn't sleep and I had an indescribable hunger that was never satisfied no matter how much I ate and by about 2 wks I was sick to death of eating! I know it was a blighted ovum but does anyone know what and why it caused me to feel how it did and or had experienced this themselves? I don't feel like it was normal bc I'm trying to make my mind up whether I could face going through that again to try again, I had a miscarriage before this also so 2 in a row, I am 39 now and have 1 child who is 5.

I also had a blighted ovum so can sympathise, it's an awful experience. I would say you probably had those symptoms because your HCG levels were still rising, mine didn't go down for a few weeks after I finally miscarried. I didn't have strong symptoms with mine but I am now 39 weeks pregnant and didn't have symptoms with this one either. Every pregnancy is different so you could get have a different experience next time.

I'm so sorry for your experience. I had a horrible experience with my most recent MMC when even when I knew there wasn't a heartbeat anymore I had horrible morning sickness, right until I went for surgical management. My body still thought it was pregnant, the sac was growing (so HCG was still going up) but the heartbeat had stopped. The symptoms all come from the hormone shifts so it's likely it was similar for you xx

Low iron?

lifeparadox333 · 16/06/2024 15:10

@moosey89 I'm so sorry that must've been abs horrendous for you also! I had the hunger rather than the sickness but I remember thinking the sickness being that bad would be so so hard and prob even worse! The body must be so confused I think and that's why it prob felt so bad for us!! Never felt that bad in all my life! Xx

@Sunnysummer24 I have struggled with anemia since I had my first almost 5 yrs ago! Drs aren't concerned said it's not terrible and to just keep taking hug strength tablets which I still take but I felt like that may have been part of the issue but I don't understand why and how that would make me feel like that? Xx

Low iron can make you feel like this. Have you had bloods done recently? Thyroid, iron, b12? Do you know the levels?

lifeparadox333 · 17/06/2024 10:16

@Sunnysummer24

Yes my results are low the iron is 29 ig/L the range is 15-200, it's been like this for ages, they just keep telling me it's not a major concern and to keep taking high strength tablets which I've been doing with the very strong ones from the chemist but it's taking forever to get the levels up as this has been ongoing since over a yr ago! I became really unwell whilst away for 10 days as didn't take them with me and they must've dropped again I had to buy some out there which I took loads off as they weren't very strong dosage, but they're telling me it's not a bad level, to keep taking them ans that I don't need an infusion as that's a different type of low iron that I app don't have. It's driving me insane tbh as I just don't feel the same I can tell with exercise I've not been able to get past jogging 1 mile in over 5 mths I'm just worn out and I aren't overweight, far from it! And I'm fairly active but I feel slow like really sluggish, I'm 39 so perhaps my age but when I see 60+ yr olds managing marathons I wonder if there's more to this than meets the eye. X

Nice guidelines says anything below 70 is a concern. No wonder your exhuasted.

lifeparadox333 · 17/06/2024 10:25

@Sunnysummer24 really I didn't know this but I know I feel abs terrible and have done for the last 2 yrs! I don't know why they aren't concerned if 70 is the benchmark, I guess because I'm within their 15-200 range but I'm so close to the bottom end, I've had terrible oral thrush on and off for the last 3 yrs and they didn't believe it was that until I saw a dentist who had to tell them I was right and after daktarin gel it went but it always returns! I had it terrible when I was pregnant with the miscarriage I just felt very unwell and it scared me tbh as I've never felt so unwel in all my life. I don't know how to tackle this to get them to do something to help me, they ran a load of baseline bloods which all came bk normal too x

@Sunnysummer24 at one stage I had to go to a&e as I was covered in bruises and had petechia all over my legs I was so worried, they again ran bloods all clear and put it down to a 1 wk course of antibiiitics I took but I was so unwell I felt drained and again they were not concerned, I thought I had signs of leukemia and I did say that.
