I am currently 30 weeks pregnant and looking into my finances once the baby is born. I am not able to claim occupational pay from work as I don’t meet the criteria, not been there long enough but I can claim SMP. I have done the benefit calculator but don’t understand it lol I will be claiming by myself and I will be lodging with my family.

Ive included a screenshot of what the entitled calculator advises, but what I want to know is, does the sum of £792 include SMP or will the £792 be paid plus SMP payments ?

many thanks

Have you puy your SMP in on the calculator when it asks for your earnings? UC is separate from SMP

If you’ve done the calculation correctly then it will be this Uc amount plus your smp.

in the calculator there is a bit that you state maternity and it will say smp or ma.

Thanks all, yes i put that I was on maternity leave and would be claiming smp !

That helps to reduce my anxiety around finances as I was unsure how to live off just either smp or uc as ideally I’d like to have atleast the 39 weeks off with my baby 👶🏼

@Mizzhogmomma I was pleasantly surprised at how much I could get in UC whilst on maternity. If you swing it try and do some KIT days to up your income.
I also used annual leave for a few weeks as you accrue leave while on maternity. That helped pay for the first month’s childcare and then UC helped towards childcare costs too. I look 11 months off.

The UC amount shown is what you will get + SMP on top.
