No Heart Beat at 5 weeks

I'm 6 weeks pregnant with a history of MMC and ectopic. Last Friday I went for a scan at what I thought was exactly 6 weeks at the EPU, but I was measuring 5 weeks. Sac measuring 8.3mm and yolk sac was seen but no heartbeat or fetal pole yet.
I was rebooked in for a scan in two weeks when I'm 7 weeks to see how everything is going and I'm so anxious.
I know 5 weeks is really early to be able to see a heartbeat etc, I was offered a scan at 6 weeks but they said it's still not 100% you'll see so better to wait
This pregnancy I've had really really strong symptoms which I didn't with my failed ones, really bad morning sickness literally all day, sore boobs, mood swings the lot so I think that's positive

Would love to hear positive stories of people that had the same situation and advice on how to get through what feels like the longest 2 weeks

The odds are very much that you wouldn’t see a heartbeat at that gestation so please don’t worry!
I had so much anxiety after a scan after 5 weeks and 6 days that showed no heartbeat and then a scan a week later showed a healthy baby with heartbeat and now 17 weeks :)

None at 6 for us and then heart beat at 7.

DejectedRejected · 06/06/2024 20:00

The heart hasn’t even developed yet so you can’t see it beat.

GreySofaCushion · 06/06/2024 20:00

It’s so stressful so if it helps you have the scan at 7 as well that’s ok, or waiting until 8 will give you a definite answer. But that’s great it’s measuring the right size and in the right place, everything crossed for you

There's barely anything to see at 5 weeks. I had a scan at 5 weeks and they really couldn't tell if it was viable or not. Heartbeat at 7 weeks.

theoyster · 06/06/2024 20:07

I was pregnant with triplets (didn't know at the time!) and they couldn't see two babies or any heartbeat from the one baby they could see at 5 weeks.

I too had a history of loss, so understand just how difficult and worrying it can be. Hopefully you can get a rescan next week and better news x

@theoyster wow that's crazy! I didn't realise that one at one scan could turn into multiple.
I've just had the strangest feeling it was going to be twins, none stop dreams about it and I was kind of shocked they said only one baby at my scan even though I don't have a family history.

Glad everything turned out well for you 🥰

I went for a scan in my first pregnancy at 6.5 weeks but turned out I was a week behind at 5.5 weeks and no heartbeat yet. Got rescanned the next week and heartbeat was there and all was fine. 5 weeks really is too early to see it in most cases.

Graceymac99 · 06/06/2024 21:11

I had several miscarriages. The 6 week scan for my youngest daughter showed no fetal pole or heartbeat with measurements at 5 weeks. I was told it was likely the pregnancy wouldn’t progress given my dates and history. At the 7 week scan a fetal pole and heartbeat were seen and my daughter is now 12. I couldn’t even think about the pregnancy until I was about 14 weeks because I was afraid to get attached to it. Don’t lose hope it’s so very early at this stage there’s every chance that at the next scan the pregnancy will have progressed. Good luck!
