Feeling so unwell first trimester

Hello, I’m 8 weeks and for the past 2-3 weeks I have felt so unwell. Nauseous, vomiting, dizziness and this constant dull headache. I’ve been given anti sickness tablets that definitely take the edge off the throwing up feeling and have stopped me being sick, but I’m worried they are making the dizziness worse.

I’m really struggling to function on a day to day basis, waking up feeling ok but starving and then even when I eat, the sickness starts, walking around the house makes me feel nauseous and dizzy, scared to leave the house at all incase I’m sick! Has anyone else felt like this and if so when will this feeling pass?

Tried everything, small snacks, sipping water, ice etc and luckily I can keep food and drinks down but just so fed up of feeling so unwell! Bed ridden most of the time and WFH so haven’t told work yet

Any advice please! :)

No advise I've just been through it for the third time it eased at 14 weeks for me each time. Just hang in there , chewing gum helped me or sucking on boiled sweets x

It will pass get some sea bands from the
Chemist. I was the same up untill 22 weeks but as soon as I wore them I had instant relief the only time I take them off even now is to shower hope u feel better soon x

Hey, I've been here twice it's the hardest part of pregnancy and made me feel exactly the same. Please see your GP there is a pathway of meds they can trial you on if the current meds don't work. I was diagnosed with moderate hyperemesis and took cyclizine for the whole of my pregnancy it helped alot. There is a new and only medication approved by NICE for use in pregnancy nausea and sickness called Xonvea - ask about this if you feel your current meds are not helping and causing other symptoms. It's used in the US for many years. I also reached out to the pregnancy sickness support help line and they honestly were amazing and helped me sooo much. I wish you well and sending solidarity. You will get through it but just push for the right support, be kind to yourself and know thankfully it will end at some stage. I have a beautiful healthy little boy to show for the awful sickness xxx

@Ljgonzo2023 how long did your symptoms go on for? I was on cyclizine for a few days but asked to switch because they weren’t helping the dizziness at all so I’m on prochloperazine which is a god send for when I feel like I’m going to throw up but I swear they make my dizziness worse too… and if I take it then fall asleep I wake up feeling AWFUL and quite often I’ll be sick at that point. However today I woke up feeling much better and only got sickness around 10am so took my tablet then, dizzy all afternoon then have managed not to take another tablet and feel better this evening. Sorry for long winded explanation but basically I definitely think the tablets make me feel off balance! Have you had this experience? I’m really hoping with the improvement today this could be coming out of the thick of it 🤞

First trimester is the worst in my opinion. This is my third pregnancy, 11 weeks tomorrow and the last week I've had zero sickness, whereas a few weeks ago I felt exactly like you. All of my pregnancies I have felt pretty much back to normal by week 10-11 and although everyone is different, I would say the majority feel better by the end of the first trimester.

Scbaby · 04/06/2024 21:53

@readyforroundthree this gives me so much hope! I’m really looking forward to my scan on Thursday so I know exactly how far I am and can judge it a bit better. I’m also going on holiday for a week next Friday so I am praying that I start to feel better before that, I’m not so worried about being on holiday but so anxious about feeling sick/dizzy whilst travelling 😩

@Scbaby I'm actually away on holiday atm ☺️ the stage you're at right now can be the tip of the iceberg before it starts to calm down again so keep going. My sickness tends to just stop, so yours could either do the same or gradually decrease. Good luck with your scan!

No advice. My morning, noon and night sickness lasted until week 16 in both my pregnancies. You will just have to tough it out. It does eventually end.

FirstBabySnnorer · 05/06/2024 01:28

Sounds like my first trimester...it went away at 14 weeks but the absolute worst of it was weeks 8-10. So you need to just hang in there. It's hard, I know, almost traumatic.

Scbaby · 05/06/2024 07:02

Thank you for all your comments! Although I don’t wish the feeling upon anyone it’s reassuring to know that it’s normal and there is an end to feeling like this! Fingers crossed it gets better from here 🤞

Some of the anti sickness tablets are antihistamines and they made me drowsy/dizzy. Ondansatron was the 4th medication I tried and worked best for me. It varies a lot for individuals and you might have to push your GP to let you try several different ones. My sickness has finally passed now (I hope!) at 23 weeks. Weeks 15-18 were the worst but I was ill from 6 weeks.

Xxfifixx89 · 05/06/2024 09:55

I am currently 5 weeks and 2 days and feel the exact same! Iv had a constant headache for 3 days, absolutely exhausted and just want to sleep and feel like im hungover! I work 10 hours shifts so the struggle is real🤦🏻‍♀️ this is my 5th baby and never felt this bad so early on so think its my age haha

belleissmart · 05/06/2024 10:50

I'm 8 weeks and three days and feel TOTALLY the same. Had awful HG, am now on cyclizine which is mostly doing the trick but I still feel so so tired, and a low level nausea. Not very enthusiastic about food and just generally feel rough so I totally sympathise. Haven't found much that works either except I feel great when I have my morning coffee. Honestly it's made me feel so shit and unenthusiastic about everything.

Nottherealslimshady · 05/06/2024 10:57

No advice. It'll pass. 1st trimester is the absolute worst.

belleissmart · 06/06/2024 13:50

@Scbaby How you feeling? I feel a bit better but have returned to work in the office which has knackered me. Also have horrible low BP which means I can't stand for long without feeling like I am going to faint

orangesunshine4 · 06/06/2024 23:27

The two things that are really helping me at the minute are travel sickness bands (life saver!! Feel instantly better) and the Olbus oil sticks that you use when you have a cold, I don't inhale properly, just wave it in front of my nose and that really helps if I have a fleeting wave of nausea

I'm also struggling to leave the house (threw up in McDonald's the other day 😅) a hand fan I find helps when you get the hot flush

Scbaby · 07/06/2024 06:30

@belleissmart I’ve definitely been much better, also slept well last couple of nights so I think that has helped a lot. On and off sickness but no throwing up. Also had my scan yesterday at 8 weeks and everything going as it should be so that’s really cheered me up ☺️. Hopefully I’m out of the thick of it! Ah bless you, the faint feeling is soo awful!
