Worried about flying for holiday!

we are currently TTC for our second child. We have a family holiday to Greece booked for end of August/beginning of September.

During my first pregnancy I had hypermeris so I am obviously concerned about getting pregnant and having that again but I’m mainly worried in general about flying before reaching the 12 week mark.

can anyone provide me reassurance? Have you flown whilst within the 12 week period and it’s been OK?

I know people will likely say wait until the holiday is over but DS is due to start school September 2025 so if I can possible get a second child in before then it would be ideal - hence starting now!

Hey. Completely understand your worries around flying as I am exactly the same. Flying in general terrifies me, so flying while pregnant only increased my anxiety! I flew last week (2.5 hours) and it was absolutely fine. Xx

@Bluesea14 i am exactly the same, I am petrified of flying and worry about the stress it may cause a potential baby on a 3.5hour flight whilst within the 12 week period 😰

I went away when I was about 10.5 weeks pregnant with my first child. I had no issues with the flight. I didn't really have any nausea with that pregnancy just extreme fatigue so lazing around all day and the ability to rest at leisure was bliss. I am currently 22 weeks pregnant with my second and experienced horrible nausea in the first trimester, I imagine that could impact the flight and overall holiday experience but I'd still have gone and just made the most of it. Good luck with TTC and have a lovely holiday.

Honestly I'd be more worried about going away with hyperemesis 😅 I've had/got HG and the last thing I'd want to do is go on a plane, and then have a holiday. I was completely bed bound for months and the only time I left the house was to go to hospital. I've only just started to sit downstairs / on the garden and have a walk to the local shop and I'm 24 weeks 😅

I am 5 weeks pregnant and got back from Turkey yesterday after a 4.5 hour flight. Going there was fine but cominv back home my right leg become swollen so had to keep moving about on the flight. This has happened before though when i have not been pregnant so guess it was one of them things.

I flew to China at 8 weeks pregnant, no issues. I did a lot of research as was also worried - everything I read said there was no increase in miscarriage statistics between those who flew and those who didn’t. Particularly reassuring was a piece of research on this that looked at % of miscarriages in flight attendants who all continue to work (fly) in early pregnancy- no difference between them and average.

Enjoy your holiday

Hi Op,
I'm currently on holiday and 11 weeks on Wednesday.
Flight was absolutely fine, I feel fine, if anything being away has relaxed me and I feel less stressed than I have been at home, funny that 🤣

I'm a former flight attendant and one thing I tried to avoid when I was pregnant was flying. I'm sure everything will be allright and all my friends flew whilest pregnant but for me, I stayed firmly on the ground for 9 months.

I found out I was pregnant just before a planned big trip. Between 6 and 8 weeks pregnant I took 2 x 1 hour domestic flights, an 11 hour flight, a 13 hour flight, a 3 hour flight and a 5 hour flight.

I also flew at 20 weeks (2 short domestic flights) and at 27/28 weeks (4 hours each way).

I'm currently sitting here at 40 weeks plus 2 days impatiently waiting for our healthy baby to arrive!

I flew at 8 weeks to New York! I was uncomfortable as I was so nauseous but I was fine otherwise. I was VERY conscious of hygiene in the airport and on the plane - wore a good mask, washed my hands a lot, had antibac, didn't touch my face etc, as I didn't want to deal with a flu (it was January!!)

It was fine.

There is no evidence that flying occasionally in early pregnancy can cause issues, is there? By now I'd imagine there would be quite a body of evidence if there was anything to worry about.

I am sure I flew a fair bit during my early pregnancies without issue. I didn't have hyperemesis though- that would not be fun on a plane.
