Hi,

Has anyone got any knowledge they can share for dealing with a cold and cough while pregnant?

Honey & lemon and loads of rest.

MaryFuckingFerguson · 28/05/2024 20:54

Is it particularly bad? I would do nothing.

You would deal with it like you would do if you weren't pregnant. Paracetamol, fluids and rest.

eddiemairswife · 28/05/2024 21:02

Just as normal.

Paracetamol and honey, lemon and ginger tea.

Important to get your temperature down if you have one with paracetamol. If you can't then you need to speak to your midwife team asap.

No sudafed etc, just paracetamol medication wise. Honey and lemon or elderberry cordial, maybe some Vit c supplements. Lots of patience because it tends to take longer than when you're not pregnant 🫠

Get some soothers if you have a sore throat!

Lots of fluids, plenty of rest and hot honey and lemon drinks is what I have done with all 3 colds I had during pregnancy (1 per trimester). I found some ice cream and ice lollies helped soothe a sore throat.

I used jakemans lozenges too as they aren't medicated unlike some lozenges (I do this when not pregnant too as I take prescribed meds which clash with medicated lozenges).

As a PP said, use paracetamol to keep your temp down if you have one.

See a GP if you have a temp which won't go down or if you have any symptoms of a chest infection. I got a chest infection with two of my 3 colds (standard for me as I'm asthmatic) and was signed off with the second one.
