Water making heartburn worse?

I'm currently 25 weeks pregnant and even though I've had the odd nights of heartburn (been swigging Gavisgon now and again 😂) it seems to have ramped up alot this past week and Ive noticed it's worse when Ive been drinking plain water, has anyone else noticed water has made their heartburn worse? Weak fruit squash seems to be ok but obviously plain water is better for you but I can't deal with the constant burning 🤢 I know heartburn is normal in pregnancy (this is my 4th) but I don't want to make it worse

This was me every pregnancy!
Having been a tap water woman all my life I could only drink soda water when pregnant
in my last pregnancy sparkling water worked too BUT plain water now still gives me heartburn so I drink sparkling all the time which is really annoying

TLDR - try sparkling water or soda water🙂

Omg I’m 32+1 and have heartburn every day and I’m waking myself up in the night being sick in my mouth due to it. I drink so much water and now I’m wondering if it’s that 😩 I don’t want to go to sparkling because I fart too much as it is 🤣

Yep I have this regularly, not just through my pregnancies! Milk is what helps me, it's very cooling. I made it to about 30 weeks before I needed something else (gaviscon is grim to me) and cannot recommend getting a prescription for omeprazole enough! Literal game changer!

Edited

My partner has omeprazole is it safe during pregnancy then?

TeddyBeans · 23/05/2024 20:50

@AimeeLou84 the Dr said it was when he prescribed it for me

I've never been pregnant, but had this symptom. Was prescribed lansaprazole for gastric reflux and that sorted it out.

Big glass of milk

How about a glass of milk, I always find sipping it helps.

Just googled it and it’s regularly prescribed during pregnancy! Ringing my GP tomorrow! 🤣

Thanks to everyone who has replied, although it's an unpleasant thing I'm glad I'm not the only one 😂 I usually try to stay away from googling health things but I had a little look and apparently water can cause heartburn to get worse. I'll try going back to weak squash and see if that helps, I'll also try the occasional small glass of milk but I'm not really one for drinking it (although anything to make pregnant life easier is worth a try)

Omeprazole all the way. Perfectly safe and heartburn gets progressively worse as your stomach shrinks. Please don’t suffer. With DS last year I was prescribed it via econsult, didn’t even need to see a GP. Game changer.

TakeThePain · 23/05/2024 21:18

Cold water is the worst thing for my heartburn too!

I try to drink it slightly lukewarm 🤢 but actually fizzy drinks are much less trouble.

LizzeyBenett · 23/05/2024 21:32

I've lived off a huge amount of gaviscon up until the 3rd trimester I eventually had to give in and take omeprazole I had constant heartburn and nothing helped don't know how I did it now I was sleeping sitting up and just suffering all the time.
