No Bump at 21 weeks pregnant

Hi,

I'm pregnant with my first baby currently 21 weeks pregnant I barely have a bump I just look a little bloated. I'm 5ft5 and a size 12-14 pre pregnancy, he measured just fine at his 20 week scan last week.

Did anyone not have a bump at this point? I'm seeing first time mums at the same stage as me with massive bumps makes me feel like something is wrong even though I know there isn't just feel like I should have a bump by now 😫

Hi, I got my bump at 19 weeks (ish). Before that I actually lost 10 lbs in my first trimester - never experienced nausea and food aversions like it - and took a picture at 15 weeks where I looked the slimmest I had in 3 years!
Just takes a little time for some, and once it comes it doesn’t stop!! So although you are wishing for a cute little bump now it’s probably a good thing the baby is all tucked away nicely!
As long as all showing fine at scans please don’t panic, soon enough you’ll be huge and struggling to put on your socks 👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻

Also for ref, 5 foot and also a 12-14 pre preg here - so another petite lady. I was surprised it took so long because everyone told me I’d show straight away with how short I am!!

Sunshineclouds11 · 22/05/2024 16:01

Still early for a bump, it will soon pop!

Mamtobe2024 · 22/05/2024 16:02

@LL1991 I hope I get mine soon I do have a little bump but nothing to write home about people don't think I'm pregnant 😂 however I do have an anterior placenta and apparently it's more common for babies to be back to be back with an anterior placenta so that maybe why I don't have much of a bump at the min!

@Sunshineclouds11 I hope so 🤞

I know they say the shorter you are the quicker you show apparently haha it's weird!

I was small at 21 weeks and suddenly huge and very uncomfortable by 28 weeks. Try to enjoy this stage, i found it easier to move around and generally more comfortable. When I was huge I found everything difficult, hot and sweaty, with terrible pain. You're only half way there, still plenty of time for a bump, you aren't missing out on anything I promise. Your baby will grow so much over the second half of your pregnancy.

2mumlife · 22/05/2024 16:04

i had a “bump that was all baby” with DD. I stayed looking just a bit bloated throughout second trimester and only really grew a bump once baby growth accelerated. Still have a 8.5lb baby 😂 Looking less slim this time, but still not particularly pregnant looking at 20 weeks

It's crazy I still don't feel or look pregnant and I'm fed up of the remarks from everyone saying you don't look pregnant or are you sure you're pregnant 😂 like yes I am very much pregnant haha but he's clearly hiding somewhere 🙊

My bump wasn't obvious until about 25 weeks and only then when I was naked. I went to a work event at 22 weeks when I had only told a few colleagues and no one could tell I was pregnant.

I didnt carry any water weight and so even the day before I delivered my bump was smaller than some of my NCT group had been at 30ish weeks!

You're right I should enjoy still being comfortable! I just find it odd that I'm still barely showing makes me not feel pregnant 😂

But you said you do have a bump? You're only 21 weeks, it's your first.

Don't wish it away!

It's nice to know I'm not the only one. I can tell more when I'm naked as you can see where my small bump is more unclothed but I'm guessing a proper bump will come the more he grows!

I would say same! I'm 5ft1 size 8-10 and my bump didn't bump until I was 22 weeks. I will say it comes from nowhere and comes fast

Mamtobe2024 · 22/05/2024 16:12

@PoppingTomorrow I just look bloated like my belly is a little bit rounded but no proper bump yet. I'm sure it'll come

OP posts:
Mamtobe2024 · 22/05/2024 16:13

@heavytohold I have heard a few people say that! That their bump just came from no where all of a sudden

It’s a blessing and a curse. After four eat trimester I had a really easy pregnancy with DD. I continued to walk up Munros and kept doing body pump at the gym until about 35 weeks, after which I still walked on treadmill whilst my partner went to the gym. I went to the gym the morning I went into labour! Didn’t get that uncomfortable, only issues with heartburn (because everything was squished up rather than bumping out!) and haemorrhoids at the end when everything got heavy!

Downside, no one in shops / on public transport could decide if I was pregnant or a bit overweight I think 😂

I also found I dropped back to pre-pregnancy weight very quickly with breastfeeding post birth.

I notice I’m bigger with second pregnancy than I was before, but still fit into most of my normal clothes still, other than some of my jeans that feel uncomfortably tight now

For reference 5’6 (just) and a size 14

Mamtobe2024 · 22/05/2024 16:17

@2mumlife wow that's amazing you were still in the gym the morning you went into labour! So far touch wood I have had a fairly easy pregnancy although heartburn is definitely creeping in now 😫

Everyone keeps saying how I don't look pregnant 😂 but he is my first baby so may take longer I guess to show

Yep, that sounds normal

maw1681 · 22/05/2024 16:17

Completely normal with your first. I remember lying down on my back for my 20 week scan and my stomach looking completely flat and thinking to myself they're going to think I'm making it up that I'm pregnant!
Baby always measured fine for dates and she was 8lb2oz at birth!

Mamtobe2024 · 22/05/2024 16:19

@maw1681 omg me too! I felt like a fraud 😂 laying there on the table and I just didn't look pregnant what so ever but lo and behold he is in there meauring just fine haha must just be hiding!

I was the same, stayed pretty small and was great in hindsight - no stretch marks, never uncomfortable, was hill walking the day my waters broke, didn't have any baby weight to lose. Was desperate for a bump at the time though!

MaltipooMama · 22/05/2024 16:22

Nothing to worry about! I didn't really have a bump at all throughout my pregnancy and still fit into the majority of my normal clothes, baby was born healthy at 7lbs so don't stress! Your scans etc will provide reassurance for you that baby is growing well 😊

Moier · 22/05/2024 16:25

I was same.
Size 12 and 9 and half stone.
5ft 7.
Didn't get any bump until 28 weeks. Then only tiny.
I was still wearing my Levi's and riding my Motorbike lol
People at work kept asking if l was definitely pregnant.
Daughter was 6 pounds when she arrived and was face presentation and normal delivery.( 11 hour labour with just gas and air) . She's now 40 years old.

LL1991 · 22/05/2024 16:33

@Mamtobe2024 ah interesting that you have anterior placenta. I had placenta praevia, so placenta former at the bottom “plugging the exit” as a sonographer once said to me. 😂 Another described it as looking like a Bundt cake on a scan!
