If you had PND did you have it with your second?

Hi all,

I currently have one little one and I found the whole newborn phase so much more difficult than I ever thought I would. Partly this was due to having awful PND and anxiety. I'd love another child but I'm not sure I could go through that again and have a toddler to care for on top of it. I know there's no guarantees I would/wouldn't have PND again but I was just wondering if anyone could share their experiences? Did anyone have it with their first and not with their second?

No completely different, but also completely different circumstances as I'd had a difficult first birth days before the first lockdown in 2020 and then a very easy second birth in 2022. I'd suggest if you're worried to speak to your midwife. They'll be best placed to discuss any support that might be available in your area.

Not diagnosed but having my second made me realise I'm pretty sure I had post partum rage with my first born. I'm so much calmer and happier this time with my daughter even though I have a much busier lifestyle now. I was so angry, jumpy and hormonal with my first.

I did have a traumatic long labour with my first and a fast water birth with my second so not sure if the birth itself makes any difference!

I had it with my first but not with my second. It's likely I had it with my first because I had a horrific labour, followed by the complete shock of looking after a newborn. My second child was born 5 years later and I was much more mentally prepared and I found everything so much better.
