Hey:

I know this sounds weird but will spicy food affect the baby ? Or is it an old wives tale!

No it won't.

Mrsjayy · 18/05/2024 12:17

No, probably give you heartburn though

Revelatio · 18/05/2024 12:38

No. I’ve never even heard of it as an old wives tale. I ate a lot of spicy food and never got heartburn.

Maddy70 · 18/05/2024 12:38

Of course not. Otherwise no indian babies would be born ;)

I had cravings for hot indians when i was pregnant and ate very little else. Its fine x

MysteriousKor · 18/05/2024 12:40

Yes, no babies are ever born at term in cultures where spicy cuisines are the norm.

You are conflating the old wives tale of eat a spicy dish to start labour with spicy food will cause a miscarriage. But regardless, it really just is a myth and it won't effect you.

lifehappens12 · 18/05/2024 13:11

They don't but I used to avoid them as sometimes after a very spicy curry my stomach cramps a bit and I didn't want to have those cramps and wonder was it the spicy food or was it the baby

Surely it doesn’t take much thinking to recognise that, given the widespread nature of spicy foods eaten worldwide, it’s highly unlikely to cause mass miscarriages?

SpringerFall · 18/05/2024 13:20

Thereareareas of the world that eat spicy food and have babies so no I don't think it works that way
