12 week scan - have to do a rescan

Hi all.
I had my 12 week scan today (12+4) and baby was upside down and curled up to start with, after multiple attempts, baby didn’t wanna get into the right position. We’ve been told we have to come back next week for a rescan.
has anyone had this before on a 12 week scan? The sonographer wasn’t very reassuring but I’m worried as it’s my first baby and not sure if everything is how it should be. We heard heartbeat which was 169 but she couldn’t tell me if they’re growing alright or anything really… just want some reassurance from some mummy’s if that’s possible?
thank you if you got to the end❤️

That heart rate sounds good. I would try not to worry, they just can't see the stuff they need to sign off for the measurements if the baby is in an awkward position

Hey hun. I had to have a rescan as they couldn’t see the babies heart on one of my scans due to her position. They needed to count the valves and arteries etc. Scared the life out of me but it was all because of her position. Before I have scans now (I’m high risk so have one every 2 weeks) I drink cold water prior to going in or have a little sugar. It usually gets them moving. Try not to worry, it happens

This happened to me, all was okay, they just couldn’t confirm anything other than the heart beat so sadly couldn’t tell me everything would be okay. The sonographer explained that as much as she’d like to reassure me, she couldn’t as if something was wrong then she could get blamed/ into trouble for giving me false information.
I’m sorry you’re feeling worried, hopefully the next week goes quickly!

I had this at my 20 week scan because they couldn't see some things properly. They tilted the bed upwards to try and get her out of my pelvis, and then had me do star jumps (I assumed they were joking at first), but she wouldn't move so I had to come back a week later.

Had this with both my pregnancies.

Babies just didn't want to play, they had me doing all sorts in the scan room and it just didn't work.

It's routine to check everything they need to.

The heartbeat sounds good 😌

This happened to me. Wasn’t anything wrong! He was just curled in a ball so they couldn’t get the full measurements to work out due date. I came back at 13+6 (and ate a few Haribo tangfastics 15 minutes before I went in to try and see if some sugar encouraged a bit of movement!) and everything was fine at that scan.

At my 20 week scan he was upside down, but this wasn’t an issue for seeing what they needed to check and getting measurements. The sonographer got me doing hip thrusts and wiggles to see if we could get him to roll over, but she said this was only so she could send me away with a better photo! She had everything she needed at that point to confirm everything was okay and still a low risk pregnancy.

I've had 3 scans and have almost been at the point of booking a re-scan every time as baby has waited until the very last second to co-operate and let them get the measurements they need.

I have had this at every scan so far..12 week scan baby was flipping around so much they just couldn't get measurements. 2nd scan a week later I had to do a lot of jigging about. 20 week scan took ages and there was query club foot so referred to fetal medicine at another hospital. They couldn't see as baby was in wrong position..went back a week later and still couldn't see but consultant was confident she had managed to see enough to rule it out.
32 week growth scan she was in an awkward position so again took ages and almost had to call me back but just about managed to get what they needed..some babies are just awkward!

Thank you all so much for your messages. It’s reassured me a lot. I’ll take all your steps into consideration and hopefully baby will be more considerate next week and actually cooperate😂

Yes we had this. Despite me being sent for a walk up and down the stairs she just would not get in the position for her to take the right measurements. We had to come back at 16 weeks when she just about cooperated to let them get the bare minimum of measurements!
I had to have growth scans towards the end and she was just as uncooperative then!
She is a lively 2 year old now

Cuwins · 16/05/2024 09:25

Oh yes I had to try star jumps too and a cold fizzy drink. She just would not shift at all 😂

Fontainebleau007 · 16/05/2024 14:33

Yes, I had this with both of my children because they didn't want to play ball and kept facing the wrong way or upside down. 😂 Was nothing wrong just had to go back as they couldn't get the correct measurements because of this.
