Worrying early scan at 9 weeks

Hello,
I went for a early 'reassurance scan' this afternoon at what I think is around 9 weeks. They tried to scan me over my tummy, could see a sac but not much else 'as there were shadows'. They recommended scanning me transvaginally but I refused to have an internal scan. As you can probably tell it was far from reassuring, and we left without any proper answers. They did not give us a scan to take away or a report since they couldn't be sure. Am I right to have a bad feeling about this? My 12 week NHS scan is in 2 weeks.

I have a retroverted uterus (tilts back) which is remarkably common and even up to 9-10 weeks I have transvaginal scans to get a clear view. Couldn't see anything at all at 7 weeks abdominally.

I think it’s not really possible to know as you refused the internal scan. You might be earlier than you thought and therefore not showing up in the abdominal scans or it might be bad news. You really need the internal scan, if they still can’t see anything at your 12 week scan you’ll likely have to have one anyway.

I'm not sure what you expected to happen at an early scan if you refused to be scanned transvaginally..? To see things in the first trimester they need to go transvaginally. It's impossible to say how your 12 week scan will go, because you haven't had an effective scan yet.

Thank you all for your responses. I suffer from vaginismus hence the refusal for the internal scan.

@moosey89 How/what point did you find out you have a tilted uterus?

With a retroverted uterus you can basically see nothing abdominally for the whole first trimester and sometimes beyond. At 9 weeks they wouldn’t even be able to get a visual of a sac for me but vaginally there’s a whole gummy bear baby with a heartbeat. So since you declined that there’s really no way to know.

@TMess thank you, that's reassuring to know. I am still hopeful this pregnancy is progressing as it should 🤞

@Guava123 in my first pregnancy when they couldn't see anything abdominally, as soon as they did a transvaginal scan they confirmed it. I was 7.5 weeks ish.
