Hey :)

I had a private scan done at 11 weeks 3 days because my booking scan is closer to the 14 week mark.

Baby is showing a size of being a full week ahead. Is that normal? And also, do fetuses develop according to lmp or size?

Thanks in advance

Hi OP, so is your baby showing to be 12 weeks 3 days?

I would try and see if they can move your NHS scan if that pushes you over 14 weeks as you need some of the tests done prior to 14 weeks.

With DD2 they moved me forward 4/5 days. But I did ovulate very early that month so made sense with my dates x

Thanks! Yes scan is showing a full week ahead. I’m under a consultant and she couldn’t even get it moved forward as they’re struggling for staff. Booking app is also late so will ask about screening bloods then.

its all so confusing I just wondered if they can be bigger fetuses but develop as per the gestational age. So confused lol

That might be true for some but DD was not large. She was only 6lbs 3ozs at 39+2 x

Just wanted to reassure you that even if you miss the window for dating scan there are still things they can do. It sounds like you now won't get an NHS scan until 15 weeks: you'll have missed the window to measure nuchal translucency but you'll still be able to have the quads test for down's syndrome only.

Basically it depends how much this is an issue for you. I guess you could go for a private NIPT if you were very concerned but of course that costs quite a bit of money.

My current pregnancy the baby was in a bad position to get measurements at the 12 week scan so I had to go back at 15 weeks. At this stage they date the pregnancy by head circumference not CRL. I was told by the sonographer that they might expect other soft markers for trisomy to be more visible at 15 weeks gestation and since all looked good I'm kind of content to cross my fingers until the anatomy scan, but I know it's less than ideal. So sorry you find yourself in this position.

Thanks! I have recently been scanned by a consultant for other issues and also had a private scan. Neither had any concerns. I’ll ask my midwife at my booking app for NIPT a bit earlier :)
