6 weeks early scan has got me worried

Hello everyone!
I’m looking for a bit of reassurance. I had an early scan today at what I thought was 6+3 weeks. I wouldn’t usually have a scan this early but I miscarried at 11 weeks at Christmas and it has made my anxiety through the roof this time! They were able to locate the gestational sac and yolk sac but no heartbeat yet. They said that the sac was measuring between 5 and 6 weeks which was a little behind my dates. They have booked me in for a rescan next week. It got me worried! Particularly as I found a small amount of brown discharge when I wiped this morning. The sonographer said that she couldn’t see any evidence of bleeding in the uterus so I am praying that this is just old blood from the cervix! Has anybody ever had a similar experience at this early stage? Particularly if you had a scan.

thank you!

I haven’t but I have seen loads of threads where babies ‘catch up’ by the next scan. Are you sure of when you ovulated? You might have ovulated later x

Quite sure! But I guess I could have implanted a bit later on. I guess I’m just worried that I’ll go back and they’ll say there’s nothing there anymore. Going through a miscarriage really does make future pregnancies so stressful! Got my fingers crossed though and trying to stay positive!

thanks for replying!

I totally get that, it’s really all consuming and emotional. I had 2 losses before my son, and currently pregnant with hopefully number 2 but getting some spotting so I’m quite worried too.

it’s awful but all you can do really is wait and see xx

You’re right! What will be will be. I really hope that we both get a happy outcome! 🤞🏻🥰

I’m 18 weeks now, I had brown spotting around 6 weeks and was all fine at a scan. It’s quite common to measure different to your dates based on last period, likely you implanted late. 🤞 all fine next weeks scan. I had a MC last year also 11 weeks, it really makes subsequent pregnancies so stressful! I still worry every day now.

Did you have an internal scan yesterday? They can cause bleeding after from irritating the cervix

As for dates I went for a scan when I should've been 7+5 and was measuring 7+1 with an EDD of 27th Sept...by the time I had my dating scan, baby had caught up and was measuring with an EDD of 21st Sept!

No internal scan! Just abdominal. She did say that a lot can change within a week and hopefully there will be a fetal pole and heart beat next time! 🤞🏻🤞🏻

HLouise94. I am sure the others are right and that you are just a little out with dates. I know a lot can change in the course of a few days.
Hope you dont mind my asking but where did you hwfe your scan. I didnt think you could have an abdominal until 8 weeks minimum and I am keen to get an early scan myself if and when I am lucky enough to conceivexagain after my Autumn MMC. I dont want a trans vaginal scan so thought I would have to weight for 8 weeks,

I had two miscarriages then fell pregnant the third time went for an early scan at epu as I was high risk. Dated me 5 weeks 6 days went back two weeks later and baby could be seen with a heartbeat. Was a horrible two week wait. But that baby is now 5 months old. Try not to panic.

Hey 👋 my dates have been out for all of mine(5) my second i was a week out, brown blood is old blood so i wouldn’t worry about that xx

I live in manchester and it was at a place called starlight ultrasound. If you’re from this area I would highly recommend as they’re very thorough!

Scans this early on should be internal. Was there any reason they didn't do an internal scan?

WonderingWanda · 06/05/2024 07:46

I'm sorry for your loss op, its so nerve wracking being pregnant again after a loss. The reality is that there is just no way of knowing at this point. Keeping everything crossed for you.
