So I am 39 + 3 today, I had my first sweep yesterday. This is my first ever pregnancy, no miscarriages. Woke up last night with cramps and an urge for the toilet, I had loose stools which isn’t common for me as I have suffered constipation most of my life from childhood. The midwife had said that I am 1cm dilated and that my cervix is extremely soft. I also had intercourse with my husband last night as midwife recommended it. I’m so uncomfortable and also extremely excited to meet my little boy so I’m wondering has anyone had a sweep at the same stage I have and had success? I’m obviously glad he is growing away in there and is healthy but I am just so excited! I also had a Chinese dish last night, chicken Sattay! Maybe that’s what caused the cramps!!!

I had sweeps on my due date with my DCs and put me into labour both times. One was born the next morning, one 2 days later after a slow early labour.

sounds like yours has done the trick and baby will be here soon, good luck!

I had a sweep at 39+3 and my waters broke right after, contractions started about 24 hours after that although they didn’t strengthen and I ended up with a c-section due to prolonged rupture of membranes. My cervix was 2cm dilated when I had the sweep and right after I bled quite a bit, I also had my show after my waters broke and then felt quite crampy for the next few hours. I think the loose stools are a good sign!

Thank you!! @Ismo456 @Wolfhall1 I went to the toilet a few hours ango and a middle length string of green discharge came out. I have no pains at all but. Could this be mucus plug?

@keenmumtobe yes it could be although
I think if labour is near it turns bloody? Mine was very bloody, almost black, not what I expected at all

Sounds like labour is about to start 😃

39 weeks. Sweep at 4pm. The nurse laughed ' it probably won't work , don't expect to see you back here tonight.' Contractions started at 6.30. Baby born at 1am.

I feel like I am holding onto everything as a little sign because I’m so desperate for it to happen soon!! Not just because it’s u comfortable but because I’m so so excited!!!!!! Are there any other signs I should look out for? I thought when mucus plug released, contractions would start? But I’m not having any pains - just a very hard bump!

I think it's your bloody show not your mucus plug that's the sign to look out for. You can lose your plug quite a while before labour starts and I think it can even grow back 🫣. I wouldn't say I had many signs with mine other than my bloody show and then contractions starting (which just started as period pains) but I know other people who have had symptoms like yours - funny tummy and so on.
