My DD is 36 weeks pregnant with her second baby. Fist baby was SGA 7th percentile when born. My DD has been having growth scans every 4 weeks. The 32 week scan showed baby had dropped to 10th percentile. The scan today showed he had dropped to 3rd percentile. The consultant has suggested another scan next week to check he’s getting the nutrients he needs. I am concerned that no mention has been made regarding my DD being induced.

@TwinklesToes I understand your concern but they sound like they are keeping a close eye on her. There is a delicate balance between when it would be best for the baby to be out (particularly if a bit prem) and left to 'cook' a bit longer. Growth has clearly slowed but as long as baby isn't showing particular signs of distress, there is no point getting them out early. Induction and labour is also stressful on them and not always the best option.

My own little one was 3rd centile at 24wk scan (growth monitoring after small 20wk measurements). They've told me he looks strong and happy in there, just small. If he drops further/plateaus we would need to explore further. Obviously I'm further behind your DD so hoping he is still doing well in there - next scan in 2 wks at almost 28wks.

The doctors will be assessing all the various risk factors and making their care decisions based on the greater risk at any point. Given she is almost at Term now, I imagine they will be carefully considering the best birthing plan. I'm sure they will tell you more after the next scan. I'm sure all will go well 💕

I had small babies 5th centile and 8th. Born at 40 and 39 weeks with no induction. I was monitored closely on my second with extra scans like your DD. The scans are only an estimate and can be up to 20% out either way.

Agree with PP just because baby is smaller doesn't mean they need to come out.

Both mine although small came home the same day and have been healthy.

Hope it all goes well x

The consultant will mention induction once she's term if the results are worrying. Lots of babies are small but healthy and if things look good in regard to health, it's often better to leave them to 'cook' per se.

Update: DD had reduced movements over the weekend, all okay on the CTG. DD and DSIL discussed the best way forward and decided the baby will be better out than in. DD is being induced at 37 weeks tomorrow.
